Hello all. May Jehovah's peace be upon everyone today.

I thought that FutureMan's question in Steadfast's Earthly Hope (http://e-jehovahs-witnesses.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1888&hl=) thread were deserving of their own thread. So, I figured I'd kick the question out to the board, and see what we can come up with. I guess the title of the thread here says it all...

Immortality Vs. Incoruptibility...are they the same?

Can't wait to hear everyone's thoughts and Scriptural supports.

Dear SlaveForJah,

Here is the information and the scriptures using the Greek words relating to immortality - incorruption. This gives us the nuts and bolts to start the discussion. Feel free to add any I may have overlooked.

G862 - aphthartos From G1 (as a negative particle) and a derivative of G5351; undecaying (in essence or continuance): - not (in-, un-) corruptible, immortal.

G861 - aphtharsia - From G862; incorruptibility; generally unending existence; (figuratively) genuineness: - immortality, incorruption, sincerity.

G110 – athanasia From a compound of G1 (as a negative particle) and G2288; deathlessness: - immortality.

1Co 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, (aphthartos) and we shall be changed.

Rom 1:23 - And changed the glory of the uncorruptible (aphthartos) God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.

1 Cor 9:25 - And every man that strives for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible (aphthartos).

1 Tim 1:17 - Now unto the King eternal, immortal (aphthartos), invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

1 Pet 1:4 - To an inheritance incorruptible (aphthartos), and undefiled, and that fades not away, reserved in heaven for you.

1 Pet 1:23 - Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible (aphthartos), by the word of God, which lives and abides forever.

1 Pet 3:4 - But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible (aphthartos), even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

1Co 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption (aphtharsia), and this mortal must put on immortality (athanasia).

1Co 15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption (aphtharsia), and this mortal shall have put on immortality (athanasia), then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

Rom 2:7 - To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality (aphtharsia), eternal life.

1 Cor 15:42 - So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption (aphtharsia).

1 Cor 15:50 - Now this I say, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither does corruption inherit incorruption (aphtharsia).

2 Tim 1:10 - But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who has abolished death, and has brought life and immortality (aphtharsia) to light through the gospel.

1 Tim 6:16 - Who only has immortality (athanasia), dwelling in the light which no man can approach; whom no man has seen, nor can see, to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

Love,

Thank you Steadfast.

I've only just had a moment to look at your post. Very interesting to say the least. I am going to have to take some time to dig a bit deeper, and ponder over the scriptures and the meanings to the inspired Greek words used, and to pray for a proper understanding. I've never looked at this one before, so, it should prove to be a good exercise.

I will get back to this thread as soon as possible.
