Unbelievable radio program

Ten years ago I was a guest on a radio program aired in the UK. The way it came about, someone on the old discussion board had some connection to the host, Justin Brierley. Justin had been trying to arrange for a representative of the Watchtower to come on his show for a chat. The Watchtower declined. So, they asked me. I rejected it at first because I am disfellowshipped. But Justin said that was okay since I still believed the basic doctrines. So, I accepted. Here is Justin's Twitter page

I was not really told what the subject was going to be. There was an ex-JW in the studio who was all prepped. The way it was going to work, Justin wanted to record two programs at the same time. I was expected to hook up with them at their convenience. Since there is a five-hour time difference between Detroit and London I had to get online at 5 in the morning. That's fine. I have always been an early riser. Unfortunately, the night before a wicked summer storm blew up and knocked the power out. We sat in the dark for a few hours hoping the electricity would come back. It didn't and the house was so stifling we could not sleep. So, we went to a nearby hotel that had power. About 3 in the morning I called the house to see if the answering machine answered (before voice mail) and it did. So I went back to the house to do the program. I had only had a couple of hours of sleep and I wasn't very sharp. I haven't listened to it since it was recorded 10 years ago. I just remember being off my game.

Anyway, someone contacted me a few days ago and suggested that I make the programs available to others. So, here are the links

Jehovah's Witnesses dialogue Pt 1

Jehovah's Witnesses dialogue Pt 2: the deity of Christ

I just spent my morning listening to this wonderful civil exchange....what was very notable is that Tony seemed to be on the attack where Robert was on the defense. Isn't that the way it was in the first century. As many points stuck out one in particular for me I have to address...Tony made the statement that if you took an average person who didn't know the bible and had them read the bible there is no way that person would come to any other conclusion other than that Jesus was God. I am a good example. Before I was 21 my only knowledge of the Bible was what I had seen in different movies depicted on TV. What the obvious was.... when Jesus was on the "cross" the stake who did Jesus pray to? Who resurrected Jesus? I did not have unlearn anything about the diety of Christ....it was simple common sense. It has been my experience thru the years that when you talk to persons of Christendom they themselves are not aware that their church believes in the doctrine of the Trinity. Since so many are not even aware of their church's stand on the Trinity tells me it must be a hard doctrine to explain.

Hi Coinlady!

When I began studying with the witnesses out of the "Truth Book", I was 17 years old and I asked my mom (I was raised Presbyterian) if we believed in the trinity to which she answered "yes". I was floored! I had been going to the same church and had endured Sunday school etc etc for years but had always thought that Jesus was God's Son, plain and simple. To hear that they considered Jesus to be God was amazing to me.

I got kicked out of my parents home the day after I graduated from high school for getting baptized as a witness a month earlier. By then I had turned 18. So what you said is so true ... @coinlady ... "It has been my experience thru the years that when you talk to persons of Christendom they themselves are not aware that their church believes in the doctrine of the Trinity." That was very true in my case LOL!

So true. I was raised Catholic and one of the few scriptures read during the mass is the temptation of Christ at Matthew 4. I could never understand that if Jesus is Almighty God, how could that even be tempting to him? It just never made sense. But Robert was very scholarly and knowledgeable in explaining his beliefs and yet it went the way of many ”discussions“ with trinitarians. For the most part, they are not truth seekers, but they have an agenda/belief and they look to find scriptures to support that regardless of the context and the logic.
