Coronal Mass Ejection. They are common every 11 years, but normally the earth's magnetic field serves as a protective shield from many of the harmful ones. This is no longer true however as the earth's magnetic field has weakened considerably and supposedly will continue to do so until the magnetic pole flip (which is thought to occur every 12,000 years) is complete likely within the next decade or two.
If you have clear skies where you are maybe you can see an aurora with this cme. On the other hand don't stay too long in the sun during the day in general. You will burn faster now that the earth has less protection and the gamma rays can be dangerous to health.

I’m not worried. There will be freaky things happening. If you’re worried about electronics, buy a metal trash can and stash them inside. Your car will likely be fried but at least you’ll still have a stereo system. It’s all about priorities.
