Veganism or vegetarianism is a luxury. If there is no plant based food, you have a choice between eating meat or dying. Principles like that usually don’t last long in situations like that.
Time wise I don't know how much food I've got. 2030 seems to be the year where they want everything wrapped up and that's a ways off. All the prepping may help for a while but I imagine they will wait us out. When food comes back, will it be laced with bad things in it?

I must say that I am a hypocrite when it comes to meat. I have killed a chicken for food once, and made myself gut it, and I have no problem with catching or eating fish. But larger creatures that have affections and enjoyment in life, I would probably abstain. But when someone does it for me, a pork chop or leg of lamb, a T bone steak….then the blind hypocrite comes out in me. I’m rather hoping for fruit and veg and dairy in the new system. I think that is probably the way forward as with a perfect body, it appears veg is best as with Adam. Fruit I hope will not be such a problem as it was for Adam, and I’m sure a sheep won’t mind giving me some wool to knit.

I know what your saying PJ, but boiling sea water where I am, does not produce a brine useful for food preservation here, more a source of concentrated manure … quite similar to what happens when one boils down watchtower rhetoric….but I suppose I’m being unkind by comparing them that way.
I suppose saltwater from a salt lake would be a better choice. I hear reverse osmosis is another choice. Then again you need electricity for that.

We’ve been vegetarians for 12 years but a homeopathic doctor advised @Something Borrowed to eat fish oil due to ulcerative colitis. So we gradually started eating fish and from that point it was a small step to go back to meat. My husband’s grandparents had a farm so he has killed chickens when he was young. I am even squeamish when it comes to getting a hook out of a fish so I have no problem in stating I am a hypocrite too. As long as I can go to the butcher or supermarket and buy chopped up animal, I’m fine. But like you, if I have to kill it myself I’ll go back to being a vegetarian in a heartbeat.

I do hope dairy and eggs are still on the menu in paradise. I have no problem cooking vegetarian dishes, they can be really tasteful.
We used to like those Linda McCartney sausages you have in the UK. They sold them over here for a while but the healthy brigade were complaining there was too much fat in them. Cause God forbid it might taste good 🤦‍♀️

Ditto for me. I have hunted and fished but after having put effort into trying figure out a collection of recipes, I could easily give up meat now. I looked around at what some of the younger crowd claim to eat and I wasn’t impressed. Becoming a soy freak is not an answer to giving up meat. A lot of the recipes I would find always seemed to have ingredients that were weren’t available or were just too expensive. Might as well throw up a roadblock.
I could eat beans and rice every night but it would get boring fast. Then one day I found Manjula’s Kitchen. She also has a youtube channel. Tons of recipes that you make with a regular oven/stovetop and ingredients that are readily found at most American grocery stores. For herbs and spices there is an Asian market near me with an Indian aisle and it’s affordable.

Indonesia used to be a Dutch colony and there are a lot of Indonesian people living here. Lots of recipes from there are either vegetarian or easily adaptable.

You can do loads with a few eggs, some vegetables and some cheese. Mexican food lends itself to being vegetarian too. Just have tacos or tortillas and fill them with fried vegetables, cheese and maybe some sour cream. It’s not hard if you use your imagination, you just have to think outside of the box, it’s not meat, veg and gravy. Frittata or soufflé can be delicious. Pasta is easy for vegetarians too. So many options. And just imagine how good food will taste in the new world. I’m getting hungry now 🤤

I recently made Tamarind chutney. The recipe says for dipping bread or mixed into rice. I like it either way. Has tomato in it. I made a couple batches of basic indian bread but really, small flour tortillas are good too. I wasn’t able to use it all up because it made about a mason jar full. My favorite food is Sag Aloo but I can’t seem to make it restaurant quality. Still missing something.
