I concur. Anything you can do. I watch Alaskan Granny on Youtube and her channel is all about this. One of the things she mentions is shelf life and issues of items becoming stale. I commented on her channel that toward the middle or latter part of food shortages, even stale flour will taste like steak. Weevils? Sift them out or leave them in for extra protein. Instead of beans, I recommend lentils and rice. You can portion easier and it takes less time to cook, if you have a means to cook. Beans take the better part of a day. Lentils can be ready in 15- 25 minutes. Canned items are great but bear in mind the space they take up. Flour and some spices go a long way as does tomato sauce or powder. In the Hispanic aisle of most stores you will see Knorr's chicken broth and they make one with tomato flavoring.

Another thing about lentils. You can make soup or you can serve them more solid. Red and yellow lentils can blend with a variety of ingredients but green/brown lentils are more common. You can even flavor them with coconut or lemon juice if you need a break from a routine.
Basic medical supplies. Matches, magnesium bars. A rechargeable light could be valuable. Things to trade. Dehydrated goods are ok as long as you have water to reconstitute. Since Covid began, the prepper companies have been hawking the ready meal kits. I won't knock them but most of them are short term. Think long term. It takes longer to murder a planet than most people realize.
Now would be a great time to learn what edible things exist around you. I said this in another thread. Maybe more importantly is to know what not to eat.
Since we are at this topic again, I'd like to point out the people of North Korea who have been eating tree bark, grass soup (it is illegal to cut grass for the purpose of making supper in DPRK) and anything else they can imagine. I am not joking here. North Korea has been working on murdering their own for decades now. For a nation that has jack squat, they make it illegal to fish without a license but won't provide food on shelves for the people. Yet, the people abide. Somewhere in paradise there will be former North Koreans (Hanguk) who will regale get togethers with stories of how they survived on leaf bread and shoe leather stew.

Thanks for that Bill. I've been looking for large bags of beans but I really don't like beans. I'm going for lentils then. Already got the rice covered.

By the way, white rice lasts longer than brown rice. Don't ask me why because it makes no sense.

Flour 10kgs
Sugar (Don't ask me why) 10kgs
Lentils (Soon to be) Probably 10kgs
Oatmeal Two huge boxes.

Any other staples you can think of that would be handy? And what about quantities?

Some of the other things that I have stored is Quinoa, which appears to last about 18 months, beef jerky and I’ve ordered seed for sprouting and sprouting cups. I think the sprouts only take about 4 to 5 days to sprout, so you could have live food in a short time. The cups make it easy to rinse and store the sprouts. And, I just recently ordered a “mushroom log”. Supposedly it will produce start producing Shitake mushrooms in about 6 to 8 weeks, but it could take longer. And then it should continue to produce the mushrooms for 3 years.

i have some shelf stable food like dry beans, rice and canned foods, and i have some seeds- the cabin community i belong to has about two acres of arable land (off site) that any member of the community can use part of to cultivate a personal garden and they encourage trading whatever is harvested. i planted cantaloupe, peas, green leaf lettuce, squash, bell pepper and some herbs. the problem rn is water, which will be an ongoing issue going forward because there are at least three large marajuana farms that i know of that are consuming copious amounts of water from the McKenzie River- and it’s becoming a legal issue now with food crops competing with marajuana crops for available water. This part of Oregon isn’t in an extreme drought but an exceptional drought. The nearest town is Ashland and it’s nestled up against a small mountain (not Mt. Ashland) in the in a dense stand of very dry Douglas fir and white pine trees and if these trees ever catch fire, the town of Ashland will burn to the ground- there is no way out except for I5. Every time i look toward that direction i worry. /-;

Dried fruit maybe? For the last school year I have been pulling out unopened packets of Craisins out the trash cans. The kids just throw them away. The vitamins from the dried fruit might be helpful in times to come. Anything with some nutrients that fruit and vegetables can give will go a long way. I think you are off to a good start. The widow who Elijah helped survived on basic flat bread. Like I've said before, if you are hungry, even the most basic subsistence will taste like steak. There may be a time to help others but keep your preparedness to yourselves for now. There are going to be a certain number of us who will continue to spread the word of God as long as we can. Clearly worth more than bread.

Some good suggestions there. I've determined from what you said that I should get some supplements. They're a bit more efficient for space than dried fruits.

I think we're going to have plenty of opportunities to preach. I'm not anointed so "I'll grab the skirt of the man who is a Jew". I'll help as many as I can to do that as well.

And, I thought I would add to have some powdered nut butter, like powdered peanut butter. They have other powdered nut butters too but peanut butter is the most available. Obviously when you add water it is creamy peanut butter but if you use a little more water, it’s a great dipping sauce for fruit. And, it can be used to make a killer Thai peanut sauce that is good for dipping and for noodles or even a salad dressing. So, it’s very versatile and it has a long shelf life.

You must be very organized.
i wish i could get that organized. i stuff all my shelf stable foods in one place and hope they hold up for the long haul.

I can; however, positively ident two specific variety of mushroom, and forage for certain edible greens that come up around these parts ie watercress, edible nasturtium and purslane (i used to gorge on wild purslane when i was a kid- tastes great!) and don’t forget dandelion greens- they are very good for you!!!

I told my husband that we should prepare to hunt certain critters around here- there is a pond not far from here that is infested with nutria. I say infested because i don’t think nutria are native to these parts. They sure do love to swim and breed baby nutria, and it would be easy to pick them off cause they sort of meander around slowly on land. I’ve never tried it but i hear they make a tasty stew. We also have plenty of squirrel- as a near last resort.

also not far from where i live is a small grove of hazelnut trees that don’t appear to belong to anyone.

always keep your eyes open for the bounty that God’s earth gives up for free.

I was born well before ‘sell by’ dates….maybe why I’m still around. Nevertheless, we never had any problems because each of us were born with two eyes and a nose, not to mention tastebuds. It’s amazing! If you not sure about whether food or drink is safe to eat, any of these senses will tell you straight away. Try siphoning petrol from a tank and immediately your brain will suggest “for the love of god, don’t swallow…!!! ‘. straight away! It works the same way for the wife’s burnt offering, school dinners or questionable foodstuffs bought on a British train. Trust me. I know.
