There are many groups on the internet, ex-JW and not.
How do you identify if a group is a sect or a cult?
What are the best indications or red-flags to watch for?
(honest question)
Jehovah knows that as soon as men get power or privilege, there is a danger of becoming arrogant on the side of the one with power, but also idolatry on the part of the ones listening to those with power.
As far as I’ve seen do far, Robert is not seeking fame for himself, he wants to point everyone to the Scriptures, thus avoiding becoming an idol himself. Of course there are always people who will put him on a pedestal, but he has clearly stated that is not his wish nor intention.
If you just look at the past, some looked up to Paul, others to Barnabas but they should’ve been looking at Jesus. Today’s org is no exception. Just look at how many look up to the GB to lead them. If you ask them a question they don’t know the answer to you get the reply: “the brothers will tell us if it’s important.” The danger is that people don’t think for themselves anymore and stop testing that what is said or written is true. I’ve been there too, I put my faith in the org until my view on covid got me 180 degrees opposite the GB. Only then I opened my eyes and realised what had happened; I had stopped thinking for myself, I trusted everything they said was true and never tested it against the Bible. Something that I should have done all those years.
