For those of you who live in a...ahem, "winter wonderland", remember that you will have to shut down your water if it gets really bad. If the temperature in your house begins to reach 0C (32 F), find and shut off the main line water valve. You should know where that is if you live in a house.
Then open up a couple of taps, one in the upper floor and one in the basement. The main point is the pressure and some of the water is drained from the water lines. I'm sure you can figure out why this is important.
TBH, it will mean you're without heat for weeks in very cold weather to have to do this but good to know.
And of course, you will have to fill some containers for water to live on before you do all that.
If you have a yard and some bricks there are videos online that show how to make an outdoor oven/cooktop with bricks. Perhaps that could be used to radiate some warmth even though you’d have to keep it outside.

Here's a Billy-Bob who discusses several styles but there are plenty of other videos. TBH, if you're not bugging out there is no excuse not to spend a little bit of money and make one of these.
One could use a couple of these to heat up rocks and then bring the rocks inside to heat the interior a bit for a while.
