It was in the early 80's and four of us sisters piled in my little green Road Runner. I had it all cleaned up for our journey. Now mind you these were 3 very HEALTHY sisters well padded.

We were on our way to the Buckingham Assembly Hall in New Hope Pennsylvania and running late. We took a wrong turn and got very lost.

I pulled over so we could check out the map. Once we got our bearings I started car and it did not budge. We were stuck in mud. The more I tried to go forward or backwards the deeper into the mud we got. We had no idea it was muddy, the sun was shining and no wet roads.

Finally I said ok you all get out and push. I figured all the Weight from them also had something to do with it.
Who knows 😂

They pushed and pushed nothing. Car was a muddy mess they were a muddy mess.

Lol and behold a great big SEARS truck came along. Two guys jumped out Got a chain and pulled us out. They said DO NOT CONTACT SEARS AND SAY THANK YOU we will get into trouble. They even gave us directions.

So there it was mud actually hanging off car.
We found car wash, went to our hotel cleaned up and changed and off we went missing half of the morning assembly program.

One time a opossum got loose in our laundry room. We couldn't find anyone to help us, but then we remembered this lady who was a JW. I was young. Maybe 11. I don't remember her name, only that she was good with animals. She didn't even hesitate. She walked over, picked up the opossum and left with it.

I got trapped in Riverside Ca. around 1976 while attending a Circuit Assembly. Had driven to the assembly from San Diego. After the Sunday session my car would not start and I had zero automotive mechanical experience at the time. I asked some brothers I had never met before from the assembly for help and two of them rushed into action, fixed my car and got me back on the road after working on it for about 4 hours and absolutely refused to accept what little money I had in my pocket at the time. It would be nice to believe the brotherhood still does stuff like that to this day. I think they do. I love the brotherhood! Too bad many of them will be turning on each other, including us, in the "near future". (Notice I did not use the word "soon")

I went straight into regular pioneering (100 hours per month) after temporary pioneering (60 hours per month, now called auxiliary pioneering) for the obligatory 3 months right after being baptized in May of 1974. At the time I did not own a car so I pioneered on my bicycle along with several other brothers and sisters in our congregation in Pasadena, Ca who did the same thing. It was really quite fun and unique. The way you could tell we were not Mormons who were famous for riding bikes in their ministry was that we wore colored shirts whereas the Mormons would always just wear white shirts.

On my way home one early summer evening, I was riding down Colorado Blvd when a big-rig truck came roaring by me. I was riding between it and the cars parked along the curb on the right of me and there wasn't a whole lot of room for me. The rear of this truck was an empty trailer and it was kinda bouncing along and not really staying in a tight position due to not being weighed down with any cargo load. When the last wheel of the rear trailer got to me it slightly brushed me and made me fall off my bike just behind the wheel as the rig continued to move on down the road. I sprawled out onto the roadway and slid on my back for about 5 yards or so with my meeting jacket taking the brunt of the fall. I sprung back up, checked my bike, made sure my book bag was still securely tied to my bike rack with the much required bungee cords and took off peddling down the road again, marveling at how great it felt to be completely unscathed by the potentially disastrous event. My jacket also survived to see the light of day at future meetings LOL.

The first convention I attended was a big international convention at Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati sometime around 1973-74? I had not been to the kingdom hall in a while and didn't make any arrangements and didn't have a car or much money, but I wanted to go. Didn't want to drive my motorcycle, so I hitchhiked down to Cincy from Indy, only about 100 miles. Two hippie girls picked me up. We were breezing along and I was in the backseat telling them all about Jehovah and the new world and they fired up a joint and asked if I wanted a hit. I said sure. As I recall there was also some white powdery stuff too. We all got high and didn't crash and they dropped me off in downtown Cincy and I checked into some flophouse on skidrow and went to the convention the next day. Fortunately, the brothers gave me a ride home. Jehovah's spirit was strong back then.

That's the most 70s story ever. Too bad I never got to experience the 70s. I was born in the 80s.

Sometime back in the late 90’s, me and my son, who was about 9 years old at the time. And three other sisters were working in service out in the rural part of our territory.

I dropped off 2 of the sisters on a study. In the meantime, me, my son and another sister went to work some nearby territory. We then came to a driveway that we couldn’t be sure whether or not there was a house at the end…but you know how JW’s are?
When we get down there, it turns out to be a hunting ground, then I realized there was no place to turn around because the road was narrow at the end and was also muddy. So I did one of those going forward and backing up maneuvers, then got stuck in the mud. 🙄 Our van was a Chevrolet Safari van so to me it was a challenge trying to do this. Then I came up with the idea to take our floor mats, put one under each of the back tires, thinking the tires might grip the mats and we’d drive on out.

I got in the back of the van to push as the other sister accelerated. That only made the mats fly out from underneath the tires as she accelerated! Ahhh!!! 😱 Now, this was wintertime and it was later in the day. I had on boots and a long skirt, so yes, I did get muddy…especially when the mats slung out so did some of the mud.
Also had no cell phone at the time so what we ended up doing was while the sister stayed with the van my son and I start walking down the road to where there were cars coming on the highway. Lots of walking and pushing that day.

Anyway, we get to the highway, a car stops and but I see this young couple that both look high as a kite (loaded) so I said, “never mind.”
Then, finally a small pickup truck stops, he has a cell phone but I couldn’t contact anyone. So the guy comes to where the van is and all he has is a long nylon rope! ☹️ So he ties it to the van and to his truck, and with that he pulled us out of the mud! Would you have believed it?? 😳

We finally get back to pick up the two sisters at the study. They were so worried not knowing what happened and about that time the sun was about to set. One of many exciting days out in service…and interesting, I might add!

I loved cities back in the day. Shortly after my divorce in the 70's, I moved to Philadelphia PA.

It was a weekend and a pioneer sister invited me to work with her. We decided to work in South Philly which at the time was predominantly like little Italy.

We go marching around door to door and suddenly a cop car pulls up and two cops get out and says stop, put your bags down and step back to the wall.

We almost wet ourselves.
We asked what was going on and one says we got a call that two black women were going door to door trying to scam (my word, ) people out of money for something I don't remember what.

We then see this old Italian lady running down the street yelling not them. Finally when she reached us she looked at them so disgusted and said NOT THEM CAN'T YOU SEE THEY ARE JW'S.

We were allowed to move along and we did just that. We left. Thankful we were dressed neatly and Jehovah took care of us. We were two scared women.

Don't think it would have worked out that way today. Too much hate and over zealous cops. Philly today is like a war zone. You can't even sit on your front porch. Now bullets fly through houses and windows. Sign of the times.

On a positive note i always used my personal work days to go out in the ministry. One day Harry one of my co-workers drove by while I was out with a group in service.

He stops and says you took a day off to do this, I am gonna have to check into this religion if you do this. We had good conversations after that. He was a nice person.

My last one is I had lost my job and in between looking for a new one I would go out in service.

Got to talking with a sister and somehow my job situation came up. She said you should take a civil service exam. I had no idea what that was.

She explained. She said exam has math, etc., I said well that leaves me out I can't even add two plus two.

Just try she said. But take the exam for the state not the County. So I did just that. When I saw that exam I was like LORD HAVE MERCY no way am I gonna pass this. Jehovah help me. I struggled with those math and what would you do in this situation questions.

About a month later I get a call saying I was one of the 3 who got the highest score on exam. They offered me an interview. I was interviewed by 2 stoned faced men and 1 women.

Several weeks later I was offered a job in human resources as a confidential secretary which meant you could not ever be fired unless you did something really stupid like stealing etc.

I ended up retiring with great insurance and pension. I know those angels were there again and changed those answers especially on math to help me through that test, kidding. However, I am so thankful for being out in service that day. Thanked Jehovah and that sister .

Another story, but not so funny. We were working way out in rural territory again and me and this regular pioneer brother went to the door. But before we could even make it to the door this man comes out with a shotgun and pointed it straight at me! I froze and was petrified! 😳
I was thankful though that the brother with me just talked to the man, calmly letting him know there was no need for him to be doing this and that we would leave. What to me took forever, the man lowered his gun and we walked back to the car.

Talk about scared!!! Later, when we worked in that same territory we saw that he put a sign up on his property specifically stating that NO JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES ALLOWED.
That was quite alright with me!

Wow Ms. LB that was really frightening. But you made me smile about the brother rambling. Poor soul was probably nervous as you were if not more so ☺.
