Is Drinking Beer a Hobby? 🤷‍♂️😁

Seriously, Song Writing is the main one although that has been shelved during the last couple of years. Covid has corked my creativity. I use a steel string Acoustic Guitar. I'm not really a great Guitar player. I know enough to construct the song although I can't read music so I have to either tape it or simply memorize it. I'm too self conscious to play in front of others but it's a nice way to express myself when feeling depressed or alone.

I have made friends with a Tribe of Magpies down at the Park. I'm not sure if that counts as a hobby but interacting with these Birds has become a daily addiction. I was down at the Park last week and I was reading my bible with my feet up on a stool when one of them Perched up on my Big toe and started singing to me. These are wild birds so to have one trust me enough to perch on my foot was a real Corker.

I also take a plastic bowl and a Gallon of water to the park and make a Bird Bath for them. I place the Bath about a Metre from where I sit and the Magpies love it. It's hot here at the moment so they actually go for the water more than the Salty crackers that I also take with me. Yesterday one of them actually jumped in the bowl and submerged himself up to the neck. He then started flapping his wings whilst under the water and covered me and my Tablet with water....like a Dog shaking himself after having a Swim. I love these Creatures.....they really make my day.

Cool. What kind of writing? Song Writing and Poetry are kind of Hand in Glove.
I have written lyrics in the past. But I write stories. I'm working on one now
I struggle to draw stick figures so drawing had never been my Bag . Would be great if you could post a sketch?
Well I didn't say I was good at it 😅

Actually, there was a time when I wanted to be a commercial artist. Then wanted to draw comicbooks. But it didn't pan out.

I have no musical talent, but I sure enjoy those who do. I used to do a lot of drawing, painting etc. I haven't allowed myself to enjoy it in many years for some reason. I do graphic design for work, so I think that sucks all my creative energy. I bake rustic sourdough bread (just took 2 loaves out of the oven), and other sourdough goods. It's rewarding. Also I raise chickens and a small garden. The chickens are pets I raised from chicks and they eat of my hands and come running when I call them. They all have names of course. They're beautiful and fun. I can't get enough.

Ha i felt the same way about my guitar playing, i had some speed, but never knew what to do with it. I just wrote and played by feel, many songs in fact, some were used in international (internet collaborated) music projects I have done, but I always felt I was just "not" fluent, OR could ever be.
As a singer I just felt more enjoyment, i guess something died inside there with Guitar. One day ill sell my custom Jackson.
its nice to work with other musicians but, in recent years it has brought much anger. Spending 2 weeks on a song, only to have THEM RUIN parts by omitting, or ALTERING things DIGITALLY.
One cover song recently i sang, the person overseas I worked with didn't like the style (my original style), so they DIGITALLY ALTERED my vocal track, and literally made it NOT ME.... Its incredible technology can DO that... but...also....
Disgusting. I told them if im going to do a cover song, I have to be myself, NOT copy the original.
Regardless at the age of 45 Im slowing down, ill never pay the bills with my dated 80s melodic rock sound, its dead and NOBODY wants to hear it. Perhaps the birds? those cuties might like operatic depth LOL.

I had done some local shows and it was great at first, the rush. But then ...playing at 2am for 4 people who are ONLY interested in MORE DRINKS, makes it not worth the time to pack up and get home by 4am. They wont remember you.
Matter of fact, i wrote a song about that LOL.

So let me ask, what are your hobbies, if any?

RR
this is my hobby. haha.

i also have two pugs, i do decoupage, some painting, photography and i love to cook, forage, play cards. love old movies - major Ingmar Bergman fan- i’ve seen about < half of his movies- Wild Strawberries is my fave. Virgin Spring is good too. the cinematography is stunning.

When I had more energy, gardening and hiking were my favorite hobbies. I had also started foraging wild medicinal herbs.

I have a blog, but I haven't posted anything since last summer. I just write in my journal now.

I can play piano, though not well. I love to sing, and I will sometimes do that to comfort myself when feeling really down.

Foraging for Wild Herbs....now that's really super cool and interesting. Ever thought of heading to Alaska and camping out in the Magic Bus?😊 ("Into the Wild" Movie)

I use to Journal as well. I've got one from 1996 that I keep as kind of a Time Capsule. I was in my Twenties, Disfellowshipped, Depressed and completely lost. Journaling helped me survive and maintain some sort of objectivity. I still do it on the odd occasion but the content these days is more focusing on working out "Truth" than "working out myself".

Thanks for sharing this. Great experience, shows the wisdom in Jehovah’s creation, it always amazes me!
So, if you think about it you could call this a hobby.… It’s Birdwatching right? As for your guitar playing…do you play by ear?

You're right.,..Bird Watching is a Hobby so I guess it's a fit. The Magpie can actually mimic human speech and is said to have an intelligence similar to that of Dogs and Primates. They are known for being aggressive to humans during nesting time and yet they will remember a human face that is kind to them for life. Tests have shown they can remember up to a 100 different people by sight. They will swoop and attack people but will not attack someone that has fed them. Amazing stuff.

I play by ear . I learned the basic chords and just strum around until I find a tune that catches my ear and then a song will start to develop.

Anyone can learn a few basic chords and play a guitar. Even if you aren't musical the guitar is relatively easy to master at a basic level. Just 4 Chords can open up hundreds of songs for a beginner.

I've actually never learned a Cover Song. I only like to play my own stuff. Everybody is different when it comes to music and I believe there is a place for everyone within it. Truly an amazing gift from our Creator.

Imagine what it would be like to stand in heaven in front of a Choir of Angels in full voice. It would make our hearts melt.

Well hopefully I'll never be like Chris McCandless and eat wild potatoes until I die of starvation! I'm pretty careful about only taking herbs I'm very sure of.

I started journaling during a particularly difficult time in life when my health was dangerously bad and I needed to keep track of how I was doing from day to day and how I was responding to things like dietary changes. It was such a life-saver. I found it incredibly useful to go back and look at where I had been. I helped me make better decisions. So I never stopped. I especially need it right now as I'm battling long Covid and dealing with the stress of the organizational response to Covid at the same time. I think there has never been a more challenging time in my entire life, honestly.

So you got the big C? Sorry to hear that. Where I live I've yet to meet anyone that has had it. I cross paths regularly with people who have had a bad initial reaction to the Jab but got over it.

I've heard with Long Covid if they give you the Vaccine it can end up in a bad way. I think Robert Malone was suggesting that.

Good to see you are still journaling. When I look back at some of my old stuff it can be enlightening to see where I've made useful changes......but also discouraging when I see myself years later still in the same patterns of dysfunction.

I hope your health picks up soon. I imagine it must be a bit scary to have the diagnosis. 🤔

My main hobby is music,
I love music, I'm an audiophile. I played the trumpet a couple of years in middle school...LOL, other than that no instruments. But I have built several speakers, (from plans published online), and my current pair have been compared to $20,000-$40,000 speakers. There are DIY amplifiers builds etc, which I would love to do, but that's too much for me. I just got done a couple months ago building the matching center for my speakers.

I still surf too.

You can surf (serve) where the need is great. (Joking)

Lots of people around here have had it. I'm pretty sure only about 3 of the people I know of who had it ended up with long Covid. Most people seem to get better. My husband and boys all had it and all recovered within a couple weeks, although they did have some residual weirdness for a few months like loss of taste and smell. I have an autoimmune disease, which apparently made me extremely vulnerable to sustaining long term damage from the virus. And yes, it is scary to live with this damage because there is so little known about how to treat it. I know people are having success with certain treatments, but it's complicated for me because there are so few medications or supplements that I can tolerate.

I hear you about reading your old journals and getting discouraged you haven't made more progress! I do that all the time. Sometimes I can see I've even regressed! Now that's really annoying.

I love chickens. We had a couple but they pooped all over my lanai and so I gave then to a sister who still has them. They are so comical! There are a lot of feral chickens here in Hawaii. I guess my hobby would be my pet dogs, but they died and I decided not to replace them yet. However, I have thought about what will happen to the dogs whose owners die during the Great Tribulation and perhaps I will rescue a dog or two if the right situation presents itself. I’ve been looking at the dog ads on Craigslist and I saw one gentleman who has terminal cancer who wanted someone to take his dog. It was so sad and I came close to replying to him, but the timing isn’t right for now. Anyway, dogs are my hobby along with backyard gardening, baking as well as snorkeling in the ocean but those things are mostly suspended for now.
