To what extent does this counsel from the September 8, 1987, Awake! not apply to the brothers and sisters themselves, given the goings-on of the organization's leadership?

I believe it applies to all people on earth who wish to survive the coming conflagration, soon to be upon us. Not only that but it applies to everyone who is not part of a church. No one is excluded in the offer from Jehovah in that “He wishes none to die but attain to repentance.” No one is excluded from the One that feels even for a sparrow, in its task completed. We have a loving God, the one who imagined even for Himself, what love should be, and not only made it integral with His laws but enjoined all other attributes to follow in its path. We should be discerning in all that we do in response to timely reminders in our conduct and to think above our own needs. How remarkable is it that watchtower has written its own condemnation in prophetic terms. It’s a self condemnation that leaves it no excuse. How appropriate. And yet those within still do not see, even when written by their shepherds. How can a warning be any more precise? A great find, Believer. 👍

@Watchtower...

Romans 2

11 For there is no partiality with God.+" and we know that to be true because the Sun Shines on the wicked as well as the good and when the time comes for judgment we can be certain that Jehovah will be just and show no partiality or favoritism to Wicked people although they bear his name.

Deuteronomy 10

15 But only to your forefathers did Jehovah draw close and express his love, and he has chosen you, their offspring,+ out of all the peoples, as you are today. 16 You must now cleanse* your hearts+ and stop being so stubborn.*+ 17 For Jehovah your God is the God of gods+ and the Lord of lords, the God great, mighty, and awe-inspiring, who treats none with partiality+ and does not accept a bribe.

1Peter 4

15 However, let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or a wrongdoer or a busybody in other people’s matters.+ 16 But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not feel ashamed,+ but let him keep on glorifying God while bearing this name. 17 For it is the appointed time for the judgment to start with the house of God.+ Now if it starts first with us,+ what will the outcome be for those who are not obedient to the good news of God?+ 18 “And if the righteous man is being saved with difficulty, what will happen to the ungodly man and the sinner?”+ 19 So, then, let those who are suffering in harmony with the will of God keep on entrusting* themselves* to a faithful Creator while they are doing good.+

Matthew 7

+ 22  Many [Watchtower] will say to me in that day: ‘Lord, Lord,+ did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works* in your name?’+ 23 And then I will declare to them: ‘I never knew* you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness!’+

Church Members.....are responsible for what the church says and does.
At some point, in the future, those who continue to support the WT's delusional teachings will realize that they are complicit along with the "church" as a result giving a "head nod" to the leadership and supporting their decisions.

There are consequences to our decisions and no decision is still a decision.

Elders, in particular, certainly carry a degree of reprehensibility when they do the "bidding" of WT by enforcing rules and executing judgements......possibly even legal responsibility for their action.
But, even worse, they may bear accountability before Jehovah!
