LAHAINA

UPDATE

The Disaster Relief work provided by The Branch is coming to a close in Lahaina. Here is a link to the recent Branch Visit which was recorded for distribution to the friends who were unable to attend in person. This special meeting was held at the Pidgen congregation so the songs are sung in Pidgen except for the very last song.

Thank you for posting. I am still wading through it. It’s a long one. Oh yeah, I guess I could have told you to your face if I just walked around the corner! :ROFLMAO:

Two weeks ago on Tues Jan 16 my daughter (Disaster Relief) gave me a tour of Lahaina. We were almost the only people in the whole town that day. It was frankly quite surreal, bizarre and devastating to see such a vibrant city burnt to the ground like it is. Having experienced Lahaina my entire life from my very young childhood on up, it took my breath away to see one of my favorite Hawaiian towns being so completely destroyed. It is quite understandable to see that sister break up so much while being interviewed by Brother Jeff Mailua during that Branch visit. Jeff was one of our former Circuit Overseers over here on Oahu back about 10 years ago. Really good guy!

Well, many beautiful thoughts and no doubt intentions. But at about 1 hour and 1minute into it, the brother makes the point that if some in the audience have lost everything perhaps this is a time to increase your service to Jehovah (paraphrased). Just imagine saying that to Job when he lost everything.

We thought the fires on Maui have been extinquished, but I just read this today:

”Small underground fires continue to emerge periodically in Upcountry, Maui”

Everything, everywhere seems to be on fire both literally and emotionally.
I’m still wading through the long video. But now here is another point that makes we wonder. They interview a lovely family who lost their home and relate the confusion, fear and pain of being so confused in a fire like that. But then they make the point that the JW’s helped them get housing and whatever they needed and they got it quickly and their non-witness acquaintances marveled and said they didn’t get any help. That just isn’t true. The local people on Maui had an immediate and heroic effort to get food, supplies, housing etc. It’s all on video. But the Federal government blocked them and threatened them with arrest. But they didn’t quit, they went under the radar to do what they could as far as basic supplies like food and water. Of course the poor victims still have seen very little of the money that was purportedly donated to them. But there are whistleblowers on X keeping everyone updated on what is happening and what is not happening. Even so, I don’t doubt that Jehovah’s worshippers had all the assistance that was available to them and the brothers are very resourceful. But there is no need to slant it and make it look like they are the only ones, because they aren’t. Now I wonder how many other relief efforts did they make false statements about.

Just an update on Lahaina. One court case for the survivors has resulted in a 4 billion dollar settlement. Apparently there are about 2,200 people affected and after legal fees, I’m guessing it will be around a million per person. Now that that’s settled, someone is setting off explosive devices around the island of Maui. One ladies car and car windows were damaged. And you can see her COVID mask hanging inside of her car. Poor people of Maui are really suffering. On Oahu where I live, its currently jam packed with visitors but people have still not returned to Maui at the same level as prior to the fire.

Thank you Susan the whole world is going to hell in a hand basket. My house hasn't headed down stream yet like in other parts of the world. Yet I know our Heavenly Father will take care of us even if we don't have a to go bag ready. Learned that from the dog man. B the D.

The last time I went to Holland money would buy anything one desired, or needed. I remember walking through Amsterdam’s red light district (I honestly thought they were traffic lights to make it a pedestrian area) and was offered not only a pair of handmade clogs, but a selection of every cheese I could desire. I was shocked! My wife had to drag me away from the Delft store window. Beautiful examples of pottery, on a par with Dresden. Then we found a frikandella and chips stall. Cosmopolitan was not the word. Seems like the Dutch have tightened up a bit now if you cannot even watch a religious video!

(I honestly thought they were traffic lights to make it a pedestrian area) yeh sure....that's why I laughed my head of.

But all nonsens aside; unfortunately, the Dutch have borrowed too much from our American counterparts and squandered our Dutch heritage. Apparently the line was drawn by that religious video

Yes, very true. Actually, I have always really enjoyed going to Holland. The place was so quiet and the streets so clean. The canals did have an inordinate amount of bikes and cars in them, though I put that down to Geneva gin.
