I always thought Dire Straights was aptly named.

I’m surprised. I always thought the Irish and Scottish were escapees from England. Rather a good idea, especially now.No I did not know that.
Why do you say that BTD? Somehow, what I think you’re trying to say isn’t positive.I always thought Dire Straights was aptly named.
Yeah, years ago a brother from a New Orleans congregation who did some research into this, so as we got to talking about it I found it very interesting. No I did not know that.
@Asadourthe older i get the more my musical taste changes.
I still love 80s music- Journey, Supertramp, Billy Squire, Split Enz, INXS, Donna Summer, The Specials, and i adore Liza Minnelli and all her Kander and Ebb songs from Caberet- also Bob Fosse was a genius, his movie Star 80 was highly underrated, though he did win the Oscar for Best Director for Caberet in 1973. I digressed, didn’t i.
@Medi-tatorI‘m a sucker for sappy love songs and ballads. I also like some of Frank Sinatra. Although I hate Lawrence Welk!
Correct! I quite like most of the 50’s and 60’s “pop” music, but prefer 1940s big band, but mostly I am strictly classical from Gregorian chant, through to Elgar. Old and boring, that’s me.Why do you say that BTD? Somehow, what I think you’re trying to say isn’t positive.
The English weren’t particularly kind to the Scotch and Irish. Why do you say that BTD? Somehow, what I think you’re trying to say isn’t positive.
@SunshowerThe English weren’t particularly kind to the Scotch and Irish.
ps. I’m a redhead too 👩🏻🦰😁
Mine is more white than red now. It used to be a chestnut colour. As a kid I hated it, then everyone wanted to dye their hair that colour.@Sunshower
Ok, so I’m partial to redheads!! My daughter had the most beautiful curly red hair when she was growing up. It’s still red, she just likes to straighten it now. 👩🦰
Well it is mostly about the different tastes in music that Driven and I have. I laugh knowing what both Driven and I know about how I feel about "sappy love songs", "Frank Sinatra" and "Lawrence Welk". I am just not into that LOL. But Driven is not into much of the music I love so it is a matter of humor for us both. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of music we mutually love, but what she mentions in her post does not trip my trigger in any way, thus the "laughter emoji". Plus her comment about hating Lawrence Welk in and of itself deserved an award because I agree whole heartedly LOL.@Medi-tator
What’s so funny about that?
I have never heard of Lawrence Whelk. From your description, he sounds rather similar in output to a bad seafood meal for the mind. Perhaps I’m just being shellfish in my thinking.Well it is mostly about the different tastes in music that Driven and I have. One of my favorite groups too. Love some Supertramp and those particular songs too! 🎶❤️🎶These I have loved all my life. Positive? The first one for sure. The second... I think so, but it's such a beautiful song either way. 🙂
@KevinBI believe this is positive in a certain way
Lawrence Welk makes me think of the Polka! Now that is really aging me.BTD
YOU NEVER HEARD OF LAWRENCE WELK??? He was BIG way back in the day, in the early 1950’s through the 70’s I believe. He was also a bandleader and accordionist. Played that ”champagne music.” Every Saturday eve in many family homes they would have his show turned on, watching him direct the band as they played, sometimes with the bubbles floating around as the music played on.
@Medi-tator & @Driven, I wasn’t a big fan of his either. We just didn’t have many choices back then what came on the TV. Oh, those were the days. 🎶 Hey, isn’t there a song with that title? 🎶
@DrivenLawrence Welk makes me think of the Polka! Now that is really aging me.
I have listened to this several times now as well, I like it. It's got a griping sound to it.@KevinB
I love this song. Ever since you’ve posted it, I’ve listened to it several times.
What do think the lyrics to the song mean?
