I have been curious as to where the Gb got this idea or the term of «new light» from.

why do you think they chose to use this description? Especially seeing its earlier historical use?

I did try searching on forum here but i might still be a little tired as i just woke up😝 apologies in advance if i posted wrong place or anything.

wish you all a peaceful day

C.T. Russell was a Protestant before he established the Watchtower Bible Tract Society. He even tried to get them to embrace the truth to no avail. Rutherford was a Baptist before following Russell.

No doubt the old light/new light terminology is a carry-over from the Protestant tradition. Interestingly, the prophecies foretell new light will shine. "And the light of the full moon will become like the light of the sun; and the light of the sun will become seven times stronger, like the light of seven days, in the day that Jehovah binds up the breakdown of his people and heals the severe wound from the blow he inflicted."

"But Peter stood up with the Eleven+ and spoke to them in a loud voice: “Men of Ju·deʹa and all you inhabitants of Jerusalem, let this be known to you and listen carefully to my words. 15 These people are, in fact, not drunk, as you suppose, for it is the third hour of the day.* 16 On the contrary, this is what was said through the prophet Joel: 17 ‘“And in the last days,” God says, “I will pour out some of my spirit on every sort of flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy and your young men will see visions and your old men will dream dreams,+ 18 and even on my male slaves and on my female slaves I will pour out some of my spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.+ 19 And I will give wonders* in heaven above and signs on earth below—blood and fire and clouds of smoke. 20 The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the great and illustrious day of Jehovah* comes. 21 And everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah* will be saved.”’ Acts 2

"and Jehovah my God shall come, and all the holy ones with thee. And it shall come to pass in that day, that there shall not be light; the bright ones shall withdraw themselves: but it shall be one day which is known unto Jehovah; not day, and not night; but it shall come to pass, that at evening time there shall be light. And it shall come to pass in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the eastern sea, and half of them toward the western sea: in summer and in winter shall it be. And Jehovah shall be King over all the earth: in that day shall Jehovah be one, and his name one."
Zechariah 14:5‭-‬9

“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes, nor figs from thistles, are they? So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then, you will know them by their fruits. “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; leave Me, you who practice lawlessness."
Matthew 7:15‭-‬23

It's up to everyone to discern whether Jehovah Witnesses had the light, still have it or expect to be given in the future. It's not an easy one but with Jehovah's help the sincere ones will figure that out.

"And those who have insight will shine like the glow of the expanse of heaven, and those who lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. But as for you, Daniel, keep these words secret and seal up the book until the end of time; many will roam about, and knowledge will increase.” Many will be purged, cleansed, and refined, but the wicked will act wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand, but those who have insight will understand."
Daniel 12:3‭-‬4‭, ‬10

Thank you for sharing these. I have been pondering some of these lately, in particular the one in Joel about Jehovah pouring out his spirit on sons and daughters in the last days, and in Daniel about knowledge increasing but only those with insight will understand. What a truly amazing and glorious time to be alive to witness these things!

As for new light from the GB, they are clearly not blessed with such insight, so they have to keep adjusting beliefs to keep up with an awakening crowd and changing world scene. Continually adjusting beliefs along with shutting down questioning & critical thinking and micro managing the very lives of the loyal followers. Such a relief to be free of their mind control and to actually witness these prophecies in a "new light" ;)
