If you are interested as a Nerd, here is a gem for you, besides Damasio, try John Locke, An Essay Concerning Human Understanding 1689, probably the first foray into psychology. I expect you can find it in a reprint somewhere. The work is based on the premise that man is born with an empty slate of a mind (too right in some cases) rather than a template - and which is more to the point in my opinion. And if your Nerding extends sideways too (as it should) Nerd away on The London Practice of Physick. Thomas Willis. 1685 and which goes into detail on all sorts of mental aberrations including Hysteria. Again, you’ll have to find a reprint. Moving into the arena of ā€Advancedā€ Nerding (or should it be Nerdary?), there is a great deal of study from circa 1916 onwards into the first investigations of shell shock on the mind and its outcomes. That really is a fascinating study of how the brain perceives issues. The internet is cluttered with reprints. There is a deal of faith to be gained into the construct and working of flesh (the brain) that can perceive, translate and sponsor ethereal thought processes that extend even into the realms of spirituality and it’s concepts of and within the Spirit. A spiritual Nerdation is revealed!

Basically yes, though the theory is outdated, it has relevance insofar as Rotter was concerned when he studied the subject of control within communities. They are still relevant though of course, what was acceptable in the 1950s in terms of social obedience has moved on and in some cases, such as America and the Middle East have become even more oppressive. Maslow was another writer on psychology with his thesis on various needs in development leading to sufficiency of self. They both deal with the issues of hierarchy in social settings but of course, culture has its own perversities too. If you want a more insightful study I would suggest The Feeling of What Happens by Damasio. (Vintage books. 1999).

Nerd away! We need more nerds.
You'll have to log in to read it all. I have no idea what "logging in" entails and I have no idea what it will get you.

Is Nerdendom a part of BTG?
There are of course many Nerdernominatons, but only one true Nerdway. Many seek it, but few are finding the Nerdom. It is liken to finding a Nerd in a field. One goes out quickly to find the owner of the field and buys it from him so that he may have the nerd. Keep on seeking first the Nerd, and all other Nerds will be added to you until you are inundated with Nerds - you know you’re not going to win this Meditatorā€¦ā€¦šŸ¤£

If the site is asking you to log in kirmmy, it means you are on a copyright site, but which you can join up to and use a password to get onto the site (log in) to read the article. This usually requires a fee. The book is still copyright so you either have to buy it or pay to read it. You could probably buy a cheap second hand copy from the internet book stores - but it’s rather heavy reading unless you find these things riveting!

Good choice of names this time Burt: Barnaby? Son of consolation. Your words truly testify to this.

Actually Med, I am humbled by your Nerdolulu. That was a stroke of genius and it opens up a whole new avenue of Nerdonomical exploration. I hope you are recovering well from your recent difficulties. We all pray for you and Mrs Med on your island in the sun. I always recall that picture she posted of her two wheeled acrobatics whilst at work. Reminded me of my mothers driving. 🤣

Looks like logging in requires about a 5 second application for any type of "reading disability"? Worked for me, instant access to the full book. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

The funny thing is that after clicking around some I ended up with a PDF copy of the Book on my computer. Oops.

So BtG, the question is; Is it really worth reading?

That depends on what you’re looking for kirmmy. Theory is simply an idea written down. Some of it works, some does not but the sum total of rubbish and genius in theory is balance and discrimination in perception. Both aspects inform the mind and progress depth of learning. Just as with watchtower, when light is shown on the rubbish, the truth shines out all the more and the deception (or fallacy in thinking) is shown. For me, I found Damasio very useful. But if you were to get a reprint copy of the book by John Locke that I noted, though an early investigation into perception, one learns the basis of and emergence of the early recognition of mental processes, their development and functioning. It is a strange progress too, because if you compare Locke with Damasio there is the huge disaster of the intervening period of disaster in mental health analysis during the Victorian period. Anyway - you be the judge.

Now with all we have learned in the past 3 years, I see that it states ā€œOperation Rivco Shieldā€ in the upper left corner to describe what they were doing at the KHall. Sounds very militaristic doesn’t it? The COVID response was executed by the military is what they term ā€œcounter measuresā€. Let that sink in when thinking of not being involved with or supporting a military action.
My thought to dear sister.
