Scriptures to explain Jesus’s return

Hi Passtot. answering your question....

the simple answer is: Not. Mat 24: 29,30 applies to the events that will take place during the Great Tribulation; it is about the world wide war (last war).

The prophetically described events as you highlighted in your comment represent nuclear war, for example: sun will be darkened, moon will not give its light….it is typical what you would see after explosion of a nuclear bomb. Since that will be the world war using such powers humanity would be swept from the surface of the earth, that is WHY JEHOVAH will intervene where it says “but on account chosen ones it will be cut”. So, generally all those events represent tumultuous time on the earth during the last period on our system.

In regards to the “sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven” and “all the thrive of the earth will beat themselves in lamentation” ….” will see the Son of man coming...” shouldn’t be taken literally. For the 1st reason that flesh/you and me, mankind, CAN’T see the Spirit. But through those events mankind, even kings will REALIZE that IT IS coming of JEHOVAH/Christ. That is why we have a FAITH in unseeing – which is what is to come. Jesus said that his coming will be like a lightening, which is sudden, “unobservable” which also suggests that it will be unnoticed. For human everything is “observable” what we can see with our eyes, everything beyond that is invisible to us that is why Jesus said that "The kingdom of God is NOT coming with striking observableness. Luke17:20.

Perhaps, the most simple Jesu’s statement in regards to his coming was in Mat 16:2 finishing with his statement in verse 3: “but signs of the times you cannot interpret”.

The privilege of seeing Christ will have ONLY anointed Christians.

…...also: if stars will fall from heaven, planet earth would be baked like a potato in an oven.
...one more thing: if you want to know more details about it, Brother Robert King can tell you way more than I....

9 After he had said these things, while they were looking on, he was lifted up and a cloud caught him up from their sight.+ 10 And as they were gazing into the sky while he was on his way, suddenly two men in white garments+ stood beside them 11 and said: “Men of Galʹi·lee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus who was taken up from you into the sky will come in the same manner as you have seen him going into the sky.”

28 so also the Christ was offered once for all time to bear the sins of many;+ and the second time that he appears it will be apart from sin,*

7 Look! He is coming with the clouds,+ and every eye will see him, and those who pierced him; and all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in grief because of him.+ Yes, Amen.

26 And then they will see the Son of man+ coming in the clouds with great power and glory.+

31 When the Son of man+ comes in his glory, and all the angels with him,+ then he will sit down on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 And he will put the sheep+ on his right hand, but the goats on his left.+

10 Let your Kingdom+ come. Let your will+ take place, as in heaven, also on earth.+

15 The seventh angel blew his trumpet.+ And there were loud voices in heaven, saying: “The kingdom of the world has become the Kingdom of our Lord+ and of his Christ,+

Thanks for your reply, which is very similar to how I was brought up to believe; but here are a few things that caused me to investigate past the WT explanation:

The coming of Jesus on the clouds happens according to His own words 'immediately after the [end of] the tribulation,' and is therefore clearly a separate event.

As to 'great glory' and 'lightning,' - those phenomena are not figments of the imagination but clearly fear inspiring and supernatural, visual displays, as all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in grief, not because of something they imagine with their non-existing eyes of faith, as the WT claims, because these people have no faith with which to perceive anything, otherwise they would not be in the predicament they are in, when facing the wrath of the Lamb.

The celestial phenomena are likely literal fearful sights and disturbances, short of the stars actually crashing into the earth; but again, this is God's judgment on the earth, when He will miraculously intervene in earth's affairs, similar to Sodom and the flood of Noah's day, where there was not much left to the imagination of those being wiped out.

This naturally raises the question as to why the WT is so adamantly denying and contradicting the obvious meaning of Jesus' plain words regarding His spectacular coming in power and great glory for all mankind to see?

It is the same reason why they came up with the invisible presence before coming lie, of which not only the date 1914 is false, but also the whole concept of a presence before coming, which serves the purpose to prepare seemingly well intentioned and supposedly spiritual persons, for the incoming kingdom that is about to replace the present wicked system of nation states, to be replaced by the global new world order that will look like God's promised kingdom on earth, and which the whole world will follow with admiration, as Revelation 13 shows, but which chapter the WT studiously avoids talking about - I wonder why?

Also, that the great tribulation is not a global catastrophe on mankind in general, is clear by Jesus telling us to 'flee to the mountains' away from 'Jerusalem,' at seeing the disgusting thing causing its desolation, standing in a holy place, which is the actual target of Jehovah's wrath, if you read the parallel account in Luke 21:20-24: '[God's] wrath on this people,' which is Christianity and those who profess it, not nuclear war on mankind in general.

In Luke 17:22, Jesus contrasts His first presence there in the midst of the Pharisees, who questioned Him about the coming of the kingdom - when He didn't come with striking observableness - with His second coming, when He turned to His disciples [us today] and said: 'Days are coming [now for us], when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of man [being personally present in their midst as He was then], but you will not see it [until His coming on the clouds of Heaven in power and great glory, just as at the transfiguration, but seen by all the tribes of the earth simultaneously]; and He warned us that before His coming, people would come, claiming to be anointed [Christs] and to have seen Him in the wilderness or the inner chambers, but not to follow them or believe them, precisely because His return will be public and seen by everybody.

I realize that these are strongly entrenched things that are hard to overturn, but there may yet be time to do so, for those loving the truth.

True, good point; but here - just as at the WT - while it is good to read and study the research of others, there is no way around doing the hard yards yourself; because when the rubber hits the road, there is no surviving the challenges to one's faith on other people's convictions.

Here you have a friendly audience that can do you no harm, to refine your beliefs.

to challenge the Watchtower is a challenge itself. Personally I never relied on the study and especially research of the Watchtower or others.....the only honest way is to open the scripture and study personally using scriptural references. It takes effort but it's rewarding.
