To put this in context it was probably 3 decades ago this pervert was sneaking around at night leering at boys through their windows but isn't this a historic example of our leadership failing?
I believe it seadog. Back in 70's shortly after my baptism there was a local needs part on fiddling around with yourself.

I will NEVER in this system forget that poor Young Brother on platform being interviewed/questioned about his fiddling with his pipes. I was shocked. There were soooo many kids in audience. I always thought these kinds of things were for parents to discuss with their kids. But who am I. I never had kids.

Also there are lots of horror stories about brothers spying on the friends. THEY ARE TRUE!! BEEN THROUGH IT. They are still lurking in some form. Spies everywhere. Ridiculous.

Time could be spent on updating those out of date talks and being more loving.

Sounds like the mentality of those extreme "born-again" run communities or Scientology spying on people for something bad to happen. It's bound to spiral out of control.

Ha...had a local needs talk pretty much solely pointed at me about social distancing and the need to be around only immediate household because i agreed to watch my neighbors child while she went to go visit her sick mom in a nursing home. An elder came to wash my windows and saw the child inside my house. I was a nervous wreck the whole time bc I knew he was noticing that the child was not wearing a mask and I just knew that it would come back to me.

Ok so that makes the elder your employee, unless he was doing you a favour. Regardless, how dare he! He’s on your property spying on you. Then can’t wait to “tell on you “ Good grief! Did they never advance from kindergarten? I can’t believe this…or maybe I can. Petty and pathetic. Jess this is all wrong, don’t allow someone to turn you into a nervous wreck inside your own home! I’m sorry he made you feel like that 😡

Hey that's nothing. I was with an...elder or maybe MS...once and he enlisted us in a mission to catch a Brother at a bar smoking. We hid outside the bar, peeking in the windows and when we spotted him, we waited until he took a puff. And then? NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!!!!!! It was one of the dirtiest, stupidest things I've ever taken part in and I'm still ashamed of taking part.

What happened to the brother. I quit smoking so that I could get baptized but I have had dreams that I started smoking again and then needed to confess my sin. So, I’m curious what the penalty is for smoking.

I don't quite remember but I think he was kind of shown mercy. No wonder after the rat-ship stuff we pulled on him. I don't think the Elder body was too pleased by our "sting operation". I think after that he kind of spiraled in and started doing really hard drugs and THEN he got DFed. He really went off the rails. But he's back in now and a real company man...if that's any consulation. :( Well, what's left of his brain is, anyhow...

C’mon…. I’m not saying that I don’t believe you. But they actually interviewed a kid? At a public meeting? In front of the entire congregation? About his struggle with self…. Ahhh…. what you said there? Really? Because “Shocked” is not what I’d be feeling. Outraged is more like it - that they would do that to a young one in public like that. Imagine living with that stigma the rest of your days as a JW.

What on earth? That’s just plain crazy and pretty creepy to make you do that. A spy operation or what? Please try not to worry about it, you probably thought you had to at the time…or else! After reading of so much nonsense that’s taken place, I realise how lucky I was to have been in a sane congregation..2 actually, for a lot of years

I actually wasn't forced. We were socializing one night, 3 of us, and one of us thought this would be a good idea (The MS bucking for Elder). We knew the wayward brother was smoking, we just wanted to prove it...to let him know he wasn't fooling anybody. I went along with the hair-brained idea to "out" him. I went along because I though the chances of finding him were slim and was kind of talked into it. We had a pretty good idea where he was drinking though...and we were right.

BTW, this Brother was extremely "oily" at the time, if I remember right. Still...should've left him alone.

It was after this incident that I became determined not to do Jehovah's job for him. Jehovah is the one who should decide when things are uncovered and when things are left alone. Nobody's fooling him. It's really a lack of faith to undermine him in this regard. If anything, I'm probably too far in the opposite direction now.

Phineus or Eli? Numbers 25 or 1 Sam 3? When do we let it slide and when do we do something about it? It takes God granted wisdom to know, I suppose.

I‘m just now seeing this post Jess and I’m so sorry you had to experience this.
I totally agree with everyone’s responses to this cult like absurdity! The elders need to remember that our obedience and worship belongs only to Jehovah and not any man! There’s no where in the Bible that it states any regulations even remotely similar to this.

Think when the lepers came around the public back in Jesus’s day. Did he make any mention of the people not being around them? Yes, there was the law stating for the lepers to be quarantined….but because of cleanliness. Still though, Jesus did heal them but he certainly would’ve also said something pertaining to ’social distancing’ ‘mask wearing’ etc. And he certainly knew what the future would be when it came to pestilences, even back then. But still no regulations were given.
Ok, didn’t mean to ramble and rant on but I get so sick of this ‘superstitious’ mentality! Like we’re going to ward off the demon like virus! 😲
Bottom line...The GB, elders and the other members of the ‘hierarchy‘ organization need to keep their noses out of our d___ business!

Yes it’s funny I had almost completely forgot about that experience too. It was just a crazy time during those early days of the “pandemic”. The hoops they made us crawl through. But looking back I can’t believe I gave them the power to make me so nervous about helping a neighbor! Of course I never got to explain the circumstances of it to the elders. Just came a few days later on zoom to the whole Cong. The only specific they left out was pretty much my name 🤣 oh well…I don’t regret that choice. Not one bit. It was the loving thing to do for a neighbor in need. And yep…pretty sure Jesus would have done the very same as you pointed out!
