The Principalities were set up by Jehovah after Babel initially they would have all been at odds with Satan if anything the devil and his subordinates would have been an undermining influence within their domains the nations were there inheritance Michael/Christ himself was one of them the one allotted Israel the difference is Michael reigned perfectly in alignment with Jehovah's standards and after some centuries Michael delivered to them a poor performance evaluation from Jehovah. (Psalm 82) Having been adversely judged they did not remain faithful to Jehovah but individually within the span of time from Babel to the first century in the middle of Rome's era they joined Satan subordinating themselves to him. I think the prince of China was one of the last to fully defect. Satan did not start as the "God of this world" nor did he always have the authority to offer all the kingdoms of the world. It was delivered to him bit by bit. If anything nationalism vs globalism is probably a contention between Satan and the princes the adversary trying to undermine their influence with all the mass migration of peoples and homogenizing the world at various levels. If one thinks in terms of eggregores there could be eggregores of the 70-72 nations formed at Babel dispersion just like how Michael's inheritance is personified in the Bible vollsgeist/folk souls these would metaphorically be the princes wives in the manner Israel was described in the Bible with globalism Satan is working to weaken these to erode the princes individual influences relative to his own. Among the princes there appears to be some measure of hierarchy for Gog of Magog is chief Prince of Meshech and Tubal multiple nations of the table of nations so the princes of Meshech and Tubal are subordinate to Gog. They are evil at present but there rebellion constitutes a fourth rebellion of intelligent creation they were the last and most powerful of intelligent creation to join the adversary.

Having been the only principality that met Jehovah's standards and even having offered his life as a ransom for mankind Michael as a reward inherits all of the nations the scroll with the seven seals is a deed to the earth as a whole the coming conflict occuring as his peers and the devil try vainly to maintain there dominions. All of humanity that survives Armageddon will not only live under kingdom rule for the millennium but will renew there allegiance annually with the feast of tabernacles. Zechariah 14
