Until they finally admit it

I think they are just trying to use current events to remain relevant. The sudden war that erupted between Pakistan and India had people talking about nuclear war since both countries possess WMDs. But because the gears grind slowly at Watchtower Inc., by the time they put together an article and posted it on JW dot org, the war in South Asia has ended as quickly as it began. 🙃

Yes, and I understand that in part the article is intended to keep "up to date with current events." But the part where they point out that the "terrible scenes" that Jesus spoke about in Luke could include nuclear detonations and that the use of nuclear weapons does not imply the destruction of the earth because Jehovah would not allow it draws a lot of attention... it is basically one of the arguments that you have used for decades when talking about this topic.

If you read the article carefully, they are cleverly saying that there will not be a nuclear war. Why? Because the Bible doesn't say that there will be one. At least they imagine it doesn't. A few months ago, they published a global warming article and absurdly claimed that climate change fulfilled Jesus' prophecy about there being fearful sights and great signs from heaven; however, in this ridiculous article, they claim the prophecy was fulfilled in 1945 when the US exploded two atomic bombs over Japan. They go on to say that if there were a nuclear war, God would not allow them to destroy the earth, but they neglect to point to what Christ said about the great tribulation, namely, that unless God cut short those days, no flesh would survive. So, even though Jesus Christ clearly explained that divine intervention will be necessary to prevent the extinction of mankind, the Watchtower claims the Bible doesn't say anything about nuclear war. No wonder Jehovah long ago stated that only terror will make them understand.

Yes, but in view of how slowly the Watchtower gear is advancing, at least before they said categorically, even in assembly outlines, that a nuclear war was not possible... at least now they say that it is possible... that is an "a great advance" 😆 that at least I think would allow us to start a dialogue with some brothers in order to sow the seeds of truth. There is a brother with whom I have had some current conversations who a few years ago said that a nuclear war was not possible because that was not in "the picture of prophetic events" (Obviously the one that every witness awaits, Peace and security-destruction of Babylon the great-gog of Magog attack-Armageddon). Now this article has left him stunned....

The JW dot org headliner is actually a recycled article from earlier this year. I commented on it on e-watchman

Thanks. I remember that time i tried to find it and cannot do it
You seem to have wanted the Spanish version, here

This sounds very much similar to what you have written. They seem to have taken an about face. Hmm 🤔

Would God permit nuclear war?

The Bible does not say. It does say that “fearful sights,” or terrifying events, would occur in our day. (Luke 21:11) An example of such events includes atomic bombs being dropped during the Second World War. The Bible explains why God has permitted wars.
Suffering?

Will planet Earth survive?

Yes. Even if man were to use nuclear weapons again, God would not allow the situation to escalate to the point of global annihilation. The Bible says that our planet will not only survive threats to its existence but will also host human life forever.

The Watchtower says the Bible doesn't say anything about nuclear war. Of course, that is true. But that doesn't mean that God did not foretell such a thing using symbolic language. For example, as I have pointed out before, the book of Joel connects the day of Jehovah with blood, fire, and columns of smoke. What is a nuclear blast but fire and the signature mushroom-shaped column of smoke? Also, there are many passages of prophecy that speak of darkness, clouds, and gloominess enveloping the world. For example, Isaiah 50:3 says: "I clothe the heavens with gloom,
and I make sackcloth their covering.”

"That is why justice is far away from us, and righteousness does not overtake us. We keep hoping for light, but look! there is darkness; for brightness, but we keep walking in gloom. We grope for the wall like blind men; like those without eyes we keep groping. We stumble at high noon as in evening darkness; among the strong we are just like the dead."
- Is 59:9-10

Keep in mind that the tribulation will be cut short on account of the chosen ones. During the world's worst tribulation, Christ's presence will begin, and he will reveal himself to the chosen: "For look! darkness will cover the earth and thick gloom the nations; but on you Jehovah will shine, and on you his glory will be seen."

Remember when Jehovah caused the sun to go dark for three days during the exodus, but the sun shone upon the Hebrews in the land of Goshen. That event was real. The darkness was not metaphorical. Neither was the light.

"I will care for my sheep like a shepherd who has found his scattered sheep and is feeding them. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered in the day of clouds and thick gloom." - Ezekiel 34:12

"Woe to those who yearn for the day of Jehovah! What, then, will the day of Jehovah mean for you? It will be darkness, and not light... Will not the day of Jehovah be darkness, and not light; will it not have gloom, and not brightness? - Amos 5 18, 20

"The great day of Jehovah is near! It is near and it is approaching very quickly! The sound of the day of Jehovah is bitter. There a warrior cries out. That day is a day of fury, a day of distress and anguish, a day of storm and desolation, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick gloom..." - Zephaniah 1:15

I believe it was Carl Sagan who coined the phrase "nuclear winter" to describe the aftermath of a nuclear war. If the renowned atheist had only known the oldest book in the world foretold that very thing.
