CLINKING GLASSES - SAY WHAT

Well boys and girls, I had to come out of my LURKING FORUM BUSHES for this one.

As the world around us is crumbling by the second, the gb is now LETTING JW's
CLINK/TOAST THEIR DRINKING GLASSES AT A CELEBRATION. (DEPENDING ON THE SITUATION). What prophecy is that again.
Oh Yes, The CLINKING GLASS PROPHECY.

It just boggles my mind sometimes at the dumb things that seem to be important to them. I am still shaking my head. This really does strengthen our faith and helps us get closer to Jehovah right, CLINKING GLASSES. WELL CLINK ON FOLKS, CLINK ON.

Climbing back into my lurking forum bushes. Everyone enjoy their weekend. CLINKEDY CLINK CLINK.

Stephen Lett didn't say what the contents of the "clinking glasses" should be.
Or how many "clinks" can be done at one time.
Oh, sorry .... no rules... I forgot

Let's celebrate the updates! Keep them coming!

What do we have.... Casual dress / Beard / Clinking glasses... Good to be a JW these days.

Lett betrayed the GB as rule-making Pharisees. By decreeing that they will not make a rule, they have inadvertently made a rule and unwittingly confessed to being the rulers.

So to them the word of Jehovah will be:
“Command after command, command after command,
Line by line, line by line,
A little here, a little there,”
So that when they walk,
They will stumble and fall backward
And be broken and ensnared and caught.
So hear the word of Jehovah, you boasters,
You rulers of this people in Jerusalem..."

Isaiah 28:13-14

I was thinking this needed it's own thread, nice one @Deborah As I posted in another thread, the JW Letters FB Group is thrilled about the light get brighter. That was of course before someone asked if they could post a link to the update in that FG Group, and were summarily excoriated, for not obeying the rules about posting the Update about not making rules! I am deadly serious. You can't make it up! Of course to be able to do that you have to be devoid of even a semblance of self awareness. It is hilarious and very serious all at the same time. Buckle up, I think it gets crazier from here. Even if they inadvertently do the right thing, it's not for the right reason, and it's not on purpose for that matter!

BTW, the reason they have an "Update" about clinking glasses, is because they don't have anything else to talk about. As @SusanB pointed out, we're on the verge of the WWIII and the GT, and "Nero fiddles while Rome burns." But the reason they have nothing to talk about, "nothing to see here", is because it all happened in the past. 1914 to be exact. And after 111 years, you can only prop up that lie for so long, that even the liars get tired of telling it. So they just meander about talking about trivial nonsense. As I commented to my wife this evening, "there is not a single prophecy that tells us to "keep awake" for Armageddon. Jesus admonition was about staying awake in anticipation for his return. All those prophecies make a lot more sense now that you know who Jesus was actually talking about. Let me point out another reason why WT is asleep. Nothing is going on in the world, that would make anyone, even the GB think the whole world is suddenly going to turn on religion and destroy it. And what's so crazy about that, is I knew this 35 years ago, and nothing has changed since then to think other wise. Therefore the to the GB nothing of any real import is taking place! That is to say outside their world. In their world they have "begun ruling without us" to quote Paul. They are already getting that head start with living like "Kings" on their One Kings Drive headquarters in Warwick! Quite the humble bunch!

Nom a scripture in Jeremiah came to my mind as I was reading your comments about prophecy etc.

Jeremiah Chapter 23 verse32

"Here I am against the prophets of false dreams," is the utterance of Jehovah, who relate them and cause my people to wander about because of their falsehoods and because of their boasting."

"But I myself did not send them or command them. So they will by no means benefit this people," is the utterance of Jehovah.

Actually the whole chapter explains it very well.

As Mick's scriptural reference in Revelation says they are pitiful and blind.

Well all of Jeremiah chapter 23 says alot.

Yes, there are so many rules they have made up and it has caused many witnesses to become judgmental and overly concerned about things that are not important. Silly things as some gad about from house to house rather than spend time getting closer to Jehovah and strengthening their relationship with him.

One of the things that really bothers me is how they insert Jehovah in their
GOVERNING BODY HAS DECIDED changes, etc. This is why so many witnesses go off the rails in some instances because they actually believe Jehovah really is involved with clinking glasses, beards, women wearing slacks and so forth.

All jokes aside though, I honestly keep Jehovah's people in my prayers. It took me awhile to understand and hopefully many of them will wake up before it is too late.

Take care everyone. Strengthen your relationship with Jehovah, stay focused on the real things as you all do here.

The scripture you quote certainly seems to apply to watchtower today. They have left the task appointed to them and sit in luxury at the expense of the sheep, spouting advice in glass clinking. They are making a mockery of themselves; telling us that they “know how Jehovah teaches us” and then issue a sermon on glass clinking. We will be receiving part two of the sermon on how to wash clothes in a cool wash next.

Virtually every aspect of life and death has pagan backgrounds and is unavoidable. Motive and heart condition is what Jehovah inspects.
Just because someone is scratching his nose with the middle finger doesn't mean it's directed at the person watching him, though it may, lol.

It is almost impossible to compile a list of everything in life that has pagan backgrounds, as "paganism" encompasses an exhaustive wide range of non-Christian beliefs and practices that derives from every present and extinct culture on earth.
Virtually every common tradition, ritual, and even linguistic elements in modern Western culture have roots in paganism.

Here are just a few of some notable examples found with an AI search. There are hundreds if not thousands more.

Holidays and Celebrations:

  • Christmas: While a Christian holiday, many Christmas traditions like decorating a Christmas tree, using mistletoe, and gift-giving have pagan origins, particularly from festivals celebrating the Winter Solstice and the return of the sun.
  • Easter: The name "Easter" itself is thought to derive from the Anglo-Saxon goddess Eostre, associated with spring and fertility, and symbols like eggs and bunnies are linked to these pagan origins.
  • Halloween: Originally the Celtic festival of Samhain, marking the end of harvest and the beginning of winter, Halloween traditions like costumes and carved pumpkins are connected to this pagan celebration of the transition between life and death.
  • May Day: Traditionally celebrated on May 1st, May Day often involves practices like dancing around a maypole, which have pagan connections to fertility and welcoming spring.
  • Birthdays: The tradition of celebrating birthdays with cakes and candles, as well as associating them with superstitions and rituals for warding off evil spirits, can be traced back to pagan beliefs.
Everyday Traditions and Customs:
  • Days of the Week: The names of the days of the week in English and many other languages are derived from names of Norse and Roman gods, reflecting the pagan worship of these deities.
  • Months of the Year: Similarly, the names of some months have origins in Roman mythology.
  • Wedding Traditions: Customs like the exchange of wedding rings, which symbolize eternity, and the use of bridesmaids dressed similarly to the bride, believed to ward off evil spirits, have pagan roots.
  • Knocking on Wood: This superstitious practice of knocking on wood for luck is thought to have originated from pagan beliefs about spirits residing in trees.
  • Covering Your Mouth to Yawn: This common courtesy has surprising pagan origins, stemming from ancient Roman theories about preventing the escape of one's life essence.
  • Gift-Giving: While associated with various holidays, the practice of exchanging gifts has ancient pagan roots in celebrations like Yule.
  • Obsession with Cats: The reverence for cats, particularly in ancient Egypt where the goddess Bastet was depicted with a cat's head, is another example of a custom with pagan connections.
Objects and Symbols:
  • Christmas Trees and Decorations: These are remnants of pre-Christian tree-worship and winter solstice celebrations.
  • Easter Eggs and Bunnies: As mentioned, these symbols are linked to the pagan goddess Eostre and her association with fertility.
  • Pentacle: This five-pointed star is a significant religious symbol for some modern pagans, representing life and the union of elements.
  • Mjölnir (Thor's Hammer): Those following a Northern European pagan path may wear this pendant as a symbol of their beliefs.
Other Aspects:
  • Attention to Moon Phases: The observance of the moon's phases and associated beliefs and superstitions have ancient roots in paganism.
  • Celebration of Natural Cycles: Many pagan traditions emphasize the cycles of nature, such as the solstices and equinoxes, and these continue to be recognized and celebrated by many people today.
  • Pet Ownership: In some ancient cultures, keeping pets was linked to beliefs about animals bridging the spiritual and physical worlds.
  • Use of Jewelry and Makeup: While serving aesthetic purposes today, jewelry and makeup were historically used for protection against evil and to symbolize social status, practices with pagan connections.
This list provides a glimpse into the many ways in which paganism has influenced modern life. It's important to remember that these examples represent a simplification of complex historical and cultural interactions, and the original meanings and contexts have often evolved or been forgotten over time.

Oh boy I am doomed Brother Obvious. I am the original cat lady on my block.
I love cats (well all animals to be honest) and cannot stand to see them hungry. Everyone that has a missing cat knocks on my door, Ms. Deborah have you seen so and so she is an orange and white cat............................................

Hope your are having a pleasant day.

Is handshaking also pagan? That's crazy. I didn't think that a toast with drinking glasses was pagan, I thought it just meant companionship over something memorable. Anyone that took offense to people toasting should have their brains examined. I didn't think people were so sensitive about a conscience matter that it had to be talked about by a GB member.

Indeed I look forward to that. But really what was the catalyst for the GB to release an update on this topic. What prompted them to single out clinking glasses at a celebration as the most important aspect of life that needed to be addressed. Or was it just a pet subject of S Lett that he wanted to air in public? This could have been a questions from readers article or something slotted into the Awake magazine. But it had to be an “update” to make sure it was not missed. Was it discussed in depth by the GB members at their meetings and met with 100 % agreement that this was the topic that needed to be addressed. It seems almost comical to believe so. I find it hard to imagine that happening. I’m sure that there is a deeper and more complex explanation for this to have been released right now. Or it might just fade away like the overlapping generation teaching. Time will tell.
Cheers!

Niobium,

Just my opinion, but ME THINKS something else is coming down the ROAD OF EMPTINESS in the way of traditional worldly celebrations. Probably one day all of this nonsense will be conscience matters.

The gb usually throws stuff out for reaction, then the real deal comes out later.
So silly and sad.

That's because it was never a conscience matter until now. The WT taught us not to toast, as it was believed to have pagan origins. This was a clear guideline, not a matter of personal conscience.

True enough, but as you say they are applied by the pagans, taken up to have an additional meaning. If Adam had not sinned, would we need days of the week? Would birthdays have meaning when life is eternal? Would we count years or observe seasons? Seasons sounds biblical. A time to give thanks for the harvest provided by the abundance of Jehovah. What’s not to celebrate. Imagine Jehovah’s wine cellar that Jesus drew from when blessing the wedding feast with wine! That’s worth celebrating at the end of every day.

We do not have to endorse paganism simply because it exists - we can celebrate what is dear to us as a blessing from Jehovah. Every day! I just hope that in the world that Jehovah will bless for us, every day will be a joy to wake up to. The celebration will be of the heart and the birdsong. The water from the springs and rivers will be as champagne, and the soil of the ground will bring forth abundance of taste and full cellars for the winter. Every tree will be laden with fruits of every kind and the rain upon them as soft and as gentle, pure and scented as new mown grass. Every day will be a birth day of something “very good”. We can have that vision right now in our hearts in exchange for a grain of faith the size of a mustard seed.

Burt, I must thank you for writing your thoughts out for us to enjoy and ponder. Your vision of the future brings a real sense of peace to my soul.👍🕊️

I would imagine it was all of those things Niobium. Given the behaviour of the gb as a whole, I would surmise that the culture within the group is one of vying to be the “deepest” spiritually. As Robert pointed out, this ‘spirituality’ is now in a state of collapse but as the gb have not demonstrated the insight into what is holy to a noticeable degree of late, one can only assume that they are deluded in their effectiveness.

Their attitude is one of condescending control over the flock and these “talks” reflect a long standing mind-set of superior knowledge and understanding that they are patently not entitled to. I was listening to talks such as this back in the 70’s - they are not new in England - don’t know about the States - and two talk “guidelines” stick in my memory. One was “Where would you expect to find the muscles that control the fingers” and the other one was “Where would you expect water to go down a drainpipe?” Both were supposed to be “trick questions”.

I also would not be surprised if their talks are ghost written by the writing department with the diktat to make them “relevant” to all, especially “the young ones”. I honestly feel that something like this must be the case in that the self assuredness and self belief of the gb, mixed with the restricted mindset and limited education of the writing department combined, make for this sort of output. They have no one to teach them, and the gb no inclination to be taught. Such is their isolation from criticism and instruction, I expect that they actually think they are “shepherding”. There is no one to speak up against them and they tolerate no argument.

I don’t know how many letters Robert must have batted off to them but clearly, they listen to no one and have the failsafe of the “apostate lies” to anyone who tries to offer them instruction. I’m just grateful that at last I have found others to teach me about the Bible and give me plain truth to think over. It’s not rocket science - apart from revelation - but it gives one the faith to understand, come what may, that revelation is a deliverance for those seeking Jehovah, rather than an end. And of course, the truth that is behind it. For understanding, one prays, and it is given. No clinking glasses. Jehovah gives insight and understanding to those asking. It’s beautiful in its arrangement. Free. Gratis. Wonderful.
