View attachment 4992As all of Jehovah's Witnesses know the Watchtower has focused our attention on what might otherwise be an obscure passage of Scripture. Doing a quick check of English translations most of the popular versions say "peace and safety" or some variation. The Holman Standard, J.B. Phillips and a few others say "peace and security." So what, you ask? "Peace and security" resonates. It is official political parlance.
Furthermore, The Watchtower has staked its reputation to say that their saying "peace and security" will come from the political leaders and the "sudden destruction" that follows will be the great tribulation. So, Jehovah's Witnesses have come to expect to hear that exact phrase announced in some dramatic fashion in the near future. I include myself among those in expectation.
It is remarkable that the United Nations has that exact phrase built into the entire organization. Amazingly, the order of the words is rarely even reversed so as to say "security and peace." It is part of the UN lexicon.
Just google "peace and security" and all of the most relevant search results resolve to the United Nations, YouTube videos included. For example, below is a UN Security Council meeting that took place on November 21st discussing peace and security in Ukraine.
With the temporary truce in Gaza and the possibility of renewed warfare on the defenseless Palestinians, the UN Security Council is going to be busy. It is rather ironic though that the five permanent members of the Security Council are waging an as-of-yet undeclared war against each other. So, it should come as no surprise if war erupts after they congratulate themselves for having brought about peace and security. Keep in mind that the prime minister of Britain met with Hitler in 1938 and declared
"peace for our time." World War Two began the following year. You know what they say about history repeating itself.
Here is the problem though, at least as far as the Watchtower is concerned. Paul said that sudden destruction would come upon them as birth pangs on a pregnant woman. Jesus, likewise, referred to nation rising against nation and all the rest as "the beginning pangs of distress." The Watchtower has convinced millions of Christians that those beginning pangs of distress began in 1914. Do you see the problem? Furthermore, Paul said that the Lord's day was coming exactly as a thief in the night, heralded by their saying "peace and security." Someone else likened their unexpected coming to a thief in the night. Again, do you see the problem?

February 2023 Watchtower (paragraph 5) on one of their most recent comments on "peace and security":
I understand the caution about speculating. We can be wrong. But so can the Watchtower. What will the WT have to say when the prophecy is actually fulfilled in a striking and undeniable way? That question will be relevant because I am certain that the sudden destruction that will ensue whenever it is that they are saying "peace and security"! will not be the great tribulation, but rather World War Three, which the WT assures us cannot happen. Can we expect the Governing Body to repudiate the very foundation of the Watchtower, which is to say 1914?
What I find amazing is Jehovah's foresight. Jehovah allowed for the operation of Satan to use every form of trickery and deception to make 1914 the centerpiece of the Watchtower. Jehovah then embedded the means for honest Christians to see their way out of the lie when the time comes. Jehovah even kindly imposed his will upon the translators of the NWT to ensure that the exact phrase used by the UN is worded properly. Now JWs who leave have a hard time explaining their stance to fellow JWs. Whenever they say the magic words, "peace and security," the Watchtower will be instantly, irreparably broken. It is only proper that the organizational idol be discredited to clear the stage for the revealing of the Son of man.
Therefore this is what the Holy One of Israel says: “Since you reject this word and you trust in fraud and deceit (1914) and you rely on these, so this error will be for you like a broken wall, like a bulging high wall ready to fall. It will crash suddenly, in an instant. It will be broken like a large potter’s jar, so completely smashed that no fragment among its pieces will be left to rake the fire from the fireplace or to scoop water from a puddle.” - Isaiah 30:12-14
JW Broadcast has uploaded a video entitled: Remain Watchful for “Peace and Security!” This topic has been considered and reconsidered on this site for many years; and of course, Jehovah’s Witnesses are frequently reminded of it in publications
