This pipeline was going to supply Europe with Russian gas. Which naturally put a big damper on the Russian economy. The only other seaport Russia has to the west is the Crimean peninsula which is as we all know, where the Ukrainian conflict began. But as Daniel 11:44 says ' it is also about a report to the east.'
