Jehovah has shown great patience. He has put up with a lot of wickedness on the part of those who bear his name. And all of Jehovah's Witnesses should know that it is not only the ungodly people of the world who will have to know Jehovah is God, but more especially those who claim to be true Christians will have to know.Yet once more . . . I will shake the heavens and the earth.—Hag. 2:6.
Jehovah has shown great patience during these last days. He does not want anyone to be destroyed. (2 Pet. 3:9) He has given all an opportunity to repent. But his patience has limits. Those who reject this opportunity will find themselves in a situation similar to that of Pharaoh in Moses’ day. Jehovah said to Pharaoh: “By now I could have thrust my hand out to strike you and your people with a devastating plague, and you would have been wiped out from the earth. But for this very reason I have kept you in existence: to show you my power and to have my name declared in all the earth.” (Ex. 9:15, 16) All the nations will eventually have to know that Jehovah is the only true God. (Ezek. 38:23) The shaking mentioned in today’s text will mean everlasting destruction for those who, like Pharaoh, refuse to acknowledge Jehovah’s right to rule. w21.09 18-19 ¶17-18
The Watchtower claims the seven seals of the Revelation scroll began to be unsealed in 1914. The undoing of the sixth seal causes a global earthquake and every mountain and island is removed from its place. Needless to say, no such catastrophe has befallen the world yet. Even the Watchtower admits that. But, to make their Revelation hokum work they claim that even though the seal was unsealed back during the First World War minor temblors have shaken the world; but alas, after more than a century since the grand climax unsealing we are still waiting for the big one to crash the system. Right.
The same sort of chicanery is employed with the prophecy of Haggai. God began shaking the heavens and the earth back in 1914. But, the big shakeout has not occurred yet. Call it the incredible elastic band of prophecy that can be stretched to whatever length is required.
There is a reason the Governing Body is compelled to fabricate such fanciful fulfillments of prophecy. It is in order to make the Watchtower appear to be the Kingdom of God to which the desirable things are gathered. Other prophecies are similarly interpreted. For example, Isaiah and Micah both refer to the mountain of the house of Jehovah being lifted up above the hills during the final part of the days, to which people of the nations will stream. To make it work the Watchtower has to make the specious claim that the final part of the days began in 1914 and that the numerical increase of JWs over the ensuing decades is the fulfillment of God's word. Except, it is all wrong. Christ has not come. The Kingdom is not ruling. The shaking has not begun.
The powers of the heavens will be shaken
This is part one of a two-part Watchtower Review series. The September 2021, Watchtower carries an article based on the prophecy of Haggai, which states: “For this is what Jehovah of armies says, ‘Yet once more—in a little while—and
