It's cute but if you are thinking of going into the wilderness with a 22LR you will be severely underpowered in an emergency. Fine for snakes and squirrels though. Anything larger would eat you before you could put it together. How about a machete? (Even an AR 5.56 is pretty useless for hunting - only good for home defense). I'd think a shorter barreled 12 gauge shotgun would be better. You can choose what weight cartridge to use so you can get a a turkey with birdshot or possibly a bear with 000 buckshot. Or for convenience and power to weight ratio get a 10mm side arm (Glock 10 mm - good for camping trips) but know that any of these will perforate 4 walls easily so we are talking backwoods here. 🤓

Well what's nice about is it can be converted into a fishing pole too. That's what caught my attention, as well as it is very lightweight. Good if you're on the move.

Have a pretty standard 9mm but if i could afford it my dream pistol is the rock island 16rd 10mm 1911 or a M57a in 7.62x25 tokarev not as everyday ccw choices but good power and range for hunting and SHTF. On machetes certainly something sharp and reasonably long is good for snakes I've read stories of a royal air force pilots time in Africa where they paralyzed a black mamba going after them by hitting its spine with a rake. Haven't hunted since I was a 4 year old in Arkansas with my father but hoping to get my hunting license and learn put the 308 to use. One of my sensei's at the dojo is into hunting but he's more into crossbows.

Must be something in the air. I just went for more 30-06 ammo today. Brother and I got back from Arkansas and he stopped so I could get more, just in case. I've never hunted down here in the mush. I was feeling this today. I don't like hunting these days, but I will. Then again, I will also gather acorns and make stew if it comes to that.

Mobility is important. It's good to assess how much gear one can carry beforehand. There are some nice pouches out there for water bottles that can fit up to 1.5 liters each

I mention it as a way of reminder that you can live without meat. To use a quote from a less than correct movie, Noah, God makes us strong. A reference to how we lived without meat and did just fine because God made it so.
My stepfather grew up in a cabin in North Arkansas, raised by an indian granny who had no money. He didn't try to tell me that acorn soup was good, rather that in a pinch, you can survive on it if you have to and he did. If you live in the south there is Polk salad and other greens. If you can remember which mushrooms aren't poisonous, those can be used as well. Maybe now is a good time to familiarize ourselves with edible nature.

In the '60s there was a song (here in Holland) that went like this:
'running is no longer possible
I wouldn't know how
I wouldn't know where to go
how far do you have to go?'
I have a feeling by now that if WWIII actually escalates, this song will apply and then is it the time to literally 'hide in your closets' Matt. 6:6a 'But when you pray, go into your private room and, after shutting your door, pray to your Father who is in secret.' ;)

I have a firm belief that the animal kingdom is preparing as well for their own tribulation at the hands of men. And given the growth of vegetarians, that plant life is none too happy either. Driven and meditator also have cannibals to watch out for paddling over from Java. I suppose we are all in for a roasting one way of another.

It's amazing how people are willing to resort to cannibalism if they haven't eaten for 3 days (so I have heard).

Learn how to live without electricity from the Amish community

The Amish may seem strange and yes, they do have internal problems just like we do but, God has allowed them to remain and thrive in an older way of life that is "sustainable". They use no more than they need but, the beast will chase them down because they believe in Jesus Christ. It may happen that we will need to defend them, before our own interaction with the beast.

I hear we taste like pork - but maybe it would require a rather good apple sauce to go with us. I must admit that I would only indulge if the fare was upper-class. I wouldn’t like anything that had been “basted” or fed on a diet of McFats and lager. I would rather have free-range aristocracy.

Hi all,

What does everyone have on their go bag?
I own backpacks but haven't set up any as a go bag because I lean more toward a quiver on my back. There's a few lbs of food and a gas can in my car. On the go bag ish front most gear I'd move around without a vehicle at home is in Molle pouches. Between a belt and a vest there's a lot of room to fit a Bible, several water bottles, smoke grenades, three days of food, a walkie talkie a first aid kit, binoculars as a start

That is more true than you think. They have a “heiau” here on the top of hill overlooking Waimea Bay (where the big wave surf contest is happening today) and it is now a historical spot. A heiau is an Hawaiian sacred spot (think of the high places mentioned in the bible). It is believed that at one time they did human sacrifice there. People still leave food at the shrine and the feral chickens eat it. Back around the year 2001 or so the cliff partially collapsed and an ancient body was unearthed there.

I guess once I'm dead I really don't concern myself with what they do with my carcass. In that in between stage though, when they're trying to sell off your parts, that is where I am concerned.
I may or may not have told this story but this seems like a good time to retell it.
My ex-wife, one of Jehovah's Witnesses her entire life told me this. She had an aunt who was JW also and needed a kidney removal. That was the doctor's determination. Surgeon gets inside of our sister and sees that she has three kidneys, not two. In a flash, surgeon determines the dollar amount for the extra kidney that she didn't know she had anyway. You with me so far? We are Jehovah's Witnesses and we don't take blood transfusions and worse come to worst, we accept our fate. Those who judge us with words have no idea what commitment really means.
You know where this story ends. Auntie died on the operating table. The surgeon could not contain what the attending nurses saw so he came clean about wanting to sell the extra kidney. Our sister, my ex-wife's aunt, is still dead to this day because of him. God rest her soul.
That was the state of healthcare in the 1970s.
Where do you suppose we are right now?
