1John 2:21

This scripture is a little confusing for me…
JWs would argue that they have the truth
Most of us here would argue that they couldn’t because no lie originates with the truth
So who has the truth??
Jesus once asked, “what is truth”?

It was Pilate who asked Jesus “What is truth” and obviously he was being derisive. The truth is what we have in God’s word. It is what Jesus preached and he lived it as well.

John 18:37-38: “So Pilate said to him: “Well, then, are you a king?” Jesus answered: “You yourself are saying that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is on the side of the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate said to him: “What is truth?” After saying this, he went out again to the Jews and said to them: “I find no fault in him”.

Also, notice the context of 1 John 2:21 starting in verse 20.

1 John 2:20-21: “And you have an anointing from the holy one, and all of you have knowledge. I write you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie originates with the truth.”

The context seems to be about some who leave the truth, as in deviate from the scriptures. It notes that people do commit sin but if they are not corrected by scriptural truths then they become liars, blinded and possibly an anti-christ.

“What is truth” I stand corrected
