Two elders in Crystal Lake, IL were found guilty yesterday for criminal failing to report CSA allowing it to go on unabated for 12 years.

These brothers are very elderly now too. So sad but at the same time this highlights why I have chosen to remove myself from the organization, although silently. Not that I was doing anything that was criminal but my conscience really overrides all of the reasons for staying silently inside. Our first obligation is to Jehovah and if these brothers had put that first, then I think they would have recognized that he would never protect a child molester, nor cover over even suspected molestation. And, in fact because they are shepherds, the needs of the child should have come first. It seems obvious to me that they decided that the GB is the channel for direction from Jehovah and this is what that belief has led to.

one of the other things that upset me about this case (and others) is their primary defense: Clergy-Penitent privilege. Weren’t we always taught over and over that Jehovah’s organization had no clergy? when i was studying in the Live Forever book, this was a key doctrine that i latched onto which really attracted me to the organization.

It is shocking. I too recognize the hypocrisy. Just unbelievable. How do they sleep at night?

But in rethinking it, every baptized witness is actually a minister. Perhaps they are applying that? I don’t know but unfortunately that isn‘t the only instance of hypocrisy. I don’t even like typing it because it is just so disturbing to me.

i hear y’a. it can be twisted into a pretzel just like Jackson’s ARC testimony where he says “I think that would be presumptuous to think that we are the only spokes-PERSON God is using”.

A well-rehearsed dodge, for sure, to the question, leaving just enough plausible deniability for the court to move on to the next question.

But we know as JWs his response was imprecise at best.

Also Asadour, just think, if the preaching work (door to door) does resume, how will you defend against all that is being revealed between the vaccine, the child abuse, the adoration of the GB? Our dedication is to Jehovah but we would be put in the position to defend the organization. At least at some times. That isn’t something that I was dedicated to.

you’re right. For perhaps the sole reason that all of this is in the public space. Watchtower is keen on keeping things OUT of the public space, so it doesn’t have to deal with them to wit: one of the things considered during a struggle session judicial committee is whether the wrong-doing had become public knowledge.

So yeah, JWs will have some ‘splainin’ to do at the door.
