Sabotage or Coincident?

I had an incident today. I was burning a pile of brush, not that big, maybe waist high, but the wind whipped up, and the fire started walking west, burning leaves and undergrowth. There is a path that separates our property from the neighbors. I thought surely the firebreak would hold. It didn't. The fire kept walking. I tried stamping it out. Neighbor has a big field of dry grass. No good. Called my neighbor to see if he had a hose that could reach that far. No answer. Finally, I called the fire department. I have burned brush many times before, sometimes huge bonfires, and it never got out of control, Kind of embarrassing. All about the wind.

It is astonishing how supposedly smart people don't get the basics nowadays. Don't connect essential systems to the internet! It takes an incredible amount of hubris among IT folk to think that a computer connected to the internet can't be hacked. Everything can be hacked. Security is made by a human so it can be cracked by a human.
Have water/power/sewage system computers off the internet and it can't be hacked, plain and simple. Then again the hacks may be deliberate but those scrawny, IT nerds with no friends nor social skills may not be the best line of defense to say NO! when asked to implement brain-dead systems.

Well...it isn't like shown on Mr. Robot, I can tell you that. There are a lot of factors involved in hacking. Attack surface, obscurity of OS, inside or outside the firewall, etc. It isn't as easy or vulnerable as you think. Believe me, if it was, everything would be compromised. My router at home is constantly being attacked by IPs from China, Russian and Eastern Europe. They haven't breached it yet. And it isn't even a firewall, just an older Cisco router. I'm just using best-practice security on it and I'm not a target they'd expend much effort on. Most hackers are looking for the low hanging fruit.
I believe it was Kevin Mitnick who said that Social Engineering is the best way to get inside a company. So WE are the weakest point in many systems.
And believe it or not, they have ways of hacking "air gapped" systems, the systems you said were "off the Internet".

Maybe it's all about the food supply? Could be real as in accidental...could be intentional as in sabotage.
Either way it seems to be another means to shrink the beef supply.
