I've had convention attendant duties on several occasions and I don't remember ever being instructed as to how to handle seating a family. Good for you putting your families interests first. That's what a good family head is supposed to do.When I became a JW, almost the entire hall was made up of people with kids of varying ages. So at the Hall, it was never an issue.
For years at conventions and assemblies I would follow the loving guidance of attendants as they tried to seat us. We had young children and liked to sit near exits or on the aisles so we didn’t disturb anyone if we had to get up. After one improper seating episode, we simply picked up and moved. And from then on I simply said, “no thank you” when they tried to direct us. They simply didn’t have the foresight to understand how to seat a young family.
It reminds me of a similar failure on my part at convention:
This was at an indoor Coliseum that had wooden bench style seating. My ex wife had 2 kids. At that time they were around 9 and 12 or so. After several years sitting on wooden benches in discomfort for 3 days we decided to bring along cushions to sit on. We searched out and specifically bought those cushion types that are typically placed on wooden dining room chairs ( the ones with strings that you tie to the chair back). Anyway, there were a group of "lovey dovey" unaccompanied young adults probably in their late teens early twenties sitting behind us (you know, the hip crowd who no longer sit with their parents). At lunch break we went outside to eat our lunch as we often did. When we came back, low and behold, the young lady of the group behind us was shamelessly sitting on my step son's cushion. They had taken it from our seats and she was sitting on it gabbing away with her male suitors (who may have been the ones to procure the cusion)... No acknowledgment of what they had done... Didn't say a word to us. To my fault, I tend to be non confrontational and a bit passive aggressive so I just gave up my cushion to the step son and sat on the bench as my wife and I made some audible comments about the situation. Eventually they got up and left, leaving the cushion behind and we took it back.
With age comes wisdom and if that had happened in the present, neither myself or my current wife would have put up with that nonsense. I would have no problem making a scene if neccessary. Darn whipper snappers need to be taught a thing or two.
