Chapter 11 - The Partnership formerly known as Strange Bedfellows

I think they had to originally set themselves up as an NGO for tax situations, especially as a worldwide organization that isn't only in one nation.

When I was researching the requirements of being an NGO so that I could contrast that with the lame excuses that the GB proposed for their status as an NGO, I was looking for an article that they posted in the Awake for 11/22/1998 and I found that the Awakes for that year are missing from the website. There are 2 years that are missing, 1997 and 1998. They have other years before and after but not those 2 years. There is another 3 years missing from 1987 through 1990. And anything before 1981 is also missing. Very curious.

**I have to correct this. Those years are not on the main website but they appear to be on the Online Publications website.

I forgot to post the link to Chapter 11: https://jehovah-is-king.com/strange-bedfellows/

I didn’t realize that Robert King changed the title to Strange Bedfellows.
The original title of the chapter was Strange Bedfellows, but in the Final Edition, I changed it to The Partnership. BTW, the online edition is the 2nd edition from 2010. Here is a little supplemental video

Would be interesting to disseminate how the tune changed after this affair was exposed. I remember during the 90's almost every Awake!, in the "watching the world" section had some info that involved the UN or its affiliates. Although it wasn't blatant support of it, looking back it seems obvious that they tried to gain favor with them. So since I haven't been a regular reader for the past few years I'd like to know if they still "promote" it. I mean besides a few quotes they've done lately... I know that even though they disasociated themselves as NGO they still attend OSCE and some others iirc. Based on that I assume that there has to be some hidden contract that obliges them to disseminate info.

Here is a link to the 10 page article in the Awake regarding the UN. You can take a look at this article and after reading it I have a question. Would one conclude (from the article) that the UN is in opposition to God’s Kingdom or could it be explained that the UN is an expression of God’s Kingdom? Of course I didn’t read it thoroughly, I just scanned through it but I can see how it is just double-speak and could have been used to secure their NGO position by giving proof of their support of the UN.

Yeah me too. I remember telling my daughter in the mid-late 90's, "wow, for someone to say they hate the U.N. as much as the Watchtower does, they sure do quote from it in a positive light a lot."

I had read this before but I just re-read the whole article series. It doesn't strike me as having any bias towards the UN agenda, more like reportage about what the people affiliated had to say (they promoted their own things, mostly positive obviously). At the end of the series there is an article (I recommend reading) that gives a nice counterbalance, explaining how only Jehovah's Kingdom will succeed in all those things. Granted, their use of language is very sneaky, because they focus on words like educational programs, world gov't and such instead of bible study and God's Kingdom. A few JW that I had talked about this think that the whole matter is blown way out of proportions or say "yeah but it opened the way for us to use them to help brothers around the world, sending humanitarian aid", as was the case in Yugoslavia during the war in the 90's. I on the other hand think that there were other ways, but that would've meant great danger for those involved. And most organizations involved were connected to the UN in some capacity anyway. In any case, since they have named the UN as the scarlet beast and then involved themselves with it, to me that is prostitution...

“‘Therefore, get out from among them, and separate yourselves,’ says Jehovah,* ‘and quit touching the unclean thing’”;+ “‘and I will take you in.’”

Another thing that is worth considering, imo, is that when things fall apart during the GT, I think that individual congregations will need greated autonomy form the org if they want to avoid "touching the unclean thing". Because during wartime order falls apart, and in localized wars it might still be doable, although more difficult, the GB's wish, as expressed in the WT, to lead in a way they are used to during the GT is just that -- a wish. That will be the time when elders will have to step up and show their loyalty to Jehovah.

I guess my point is that the articles seem to be saying that the UN has done pretty good for humans but our Creator can take it the last mile and really make it work. The problem with this type of reasoning is that it ignores the crimes, even by the UN. UN military forces are notorious for raping women and children. The UN is really the principal of “right by might” and their supposed good deeds are merely window dressing. Look at what WHO has done regarding COVID and the vaccine. They worked hand in hand with China to hide the origins of the virus even hiring Peter Dazak to lead the investigative team when he is culpable in it. What is the truth? Is the UN a champion for human rights? I haven’t seen it. They have the slogans down pat though.

Very nicely stated. I guess you can read it in many ways. My argument was that they didn't directly endorse any of those things. But you're right, what they omitted speaks volumes.

After all they provided the platform for the UN to express itself to JW.
yes they did. I just had a thought, how would you feel if you heard the UN had troops in your state or country or town? Would that be reassuring or alarming? Now think about how you would feel if you knew God’s Kingdom was being established right now. Would that be reassuring or alarming? Interesting to ponder.

I can tell you from experience. When UN troops came to Yugoslavia, they were seen as peace keepers. Kids always flocked around them because it meant free food, candy and safety from bombing. But I know what you mean. I'd feel much better knowing God's Kingdom is here.
