How would you feel about working for employers in christendom?

I’ve seen opportunities at schools that are affiliated with various churches of some sort. I haven’t applied to any of those kinds, but I’ve been giving it more consideration. Working in a specific department and a role with nothing to do as far as religion is concerned seems to be a bit different. But I also consider the representation aspect. Have any of you given consideration to similar situations regarding employment?

Back in 2010 I was selling photovoltaic solar systems to get by. The real estate world (I am a real estate agent) had crashed and burned and I needed to pay the bills. While hired on with this particular company as a sales rep, I was given the opportunity to be a part of the installation team whose project was to install a bunch of PV panels on one of the office buildings on the Hickam-Pearl Harbor Joint Base (Navy and Air Force). I took that job.

The local Catholic Diocese owns a building in Downtown Honolulu which is a high-rise office complex. I would not hesitate renting and using for my business an office in that building. Same issue, different scenario.

But as is true in many cases, my conscience may dictate something yours or others does not dictate. Like working at a Burger King which happens to be located on a military base. I know a newly interested bible study who was advised by the elders that he had to quit that job in order to be baptized. Personally, I was dismayed at that directive. But many others agreed with it. So, whatever your conscience can handle is my concluding thought on your question.

PS. Many businesses that are supported by John Q. Public are owned by the Mormons. One way or another, as an active member of the human race, it is almost impossible to not support some untoward business endeavors in our daily living experiences.

Would that not be a conscience matter? My Mom used to buy our school clothes at a thrift store called "The Good Shepard"run by the Catholics I believe. After Baptism as a JW she kinda went wild thinking everything we bought there was demonized..So she tossed out almost everything I wore to school..Then a few years ago, we ended up needing the food bank in town after my husband had surgery, stocked with food from the local grocery stores , but ran by the Catholics..was this wrong? After all, the food came from the out of date food donated from the market. Then you think back at what Daniel had to put up with, living with outright pagans and conducting business even becoming the Boss over much..Joseph in Egypt had to put up with their paganism...personally, I Hate Babylon the Great and their perpetuated lies.. where is the line? I would think that you would have to experience how far they went and what they required you to do..The Elders are like the pharasies ("don't carry your matt on the sabbath...who cares if Jesus restored your legs") hope that helps

Depends on what it is. If it's for doing lawn service for that church. It's just maintenance for the landscape. If it's a job of making idols or statues for their displays, that's a big no no. Same can be said for holiday vacation pay. Do you tell your employer not to pay you for holidays? Or do you just accept it knowing you don't observe that holiday anyways so it's free bonus money.

Soul sage, I do enjoy your posts but I am curious as to why you come to this forum. I only ask because most of your comments are defending the gb and org, so does being on this forum bother your conscience?

Jesus had no problem healing the servant of a Roman Army Centurion.
Likewise Jehovah had no problem drawing another Roman Centurian military official to be the first gentile convert to Christianity.

When Jesus talked to tax collector's, criminals and prostitutes did speaking to them bother Jesus conscience? Obviously, it did not, they were willing to listen. Likewise, I do the same if anybody has a listening ear and willing to learn and have communication with each other as iron sharpens iron. I let Jehovah be the judge and I don't focus on the negatives on the organization, I focus on the positives while realizing they are imperfect and will make mistakes. Focusing on the negatives will eventually bring you down to Satan's level and it's a terrible mindset to have.

I do not think it matters who we speak with either. I have met many such people during my life. No one should be left out that have a listening ear. By the same token, it is not out of place to remonstrate with others either and again, Jesus dished it out on many occasion. Focussing on negative values is just as much a learning curve as offering encouragement if done in a non-combative and sympathetic manner. Extremes of both examples also has its place. Sometimes, things have to be put bluntly. The real issue in all this though, is not what is said, so much as the motive of the one speaking - for that is where opinion is nurtured. There is another factor of course and that is that being singularly positive is a two edged sword. The bible points out this subtlety where it mentions the speaker saying to his listener “…go well fed…” but does nothing to alleviate that one’s needs. Therefore, acknowledgement of the negatives has its value - quite a significant value actually, because often in this world, people live very negative lives. The majority here have dwelt there as have many others judging by what they write. Professional empathetic experience is a gem worth cultivating because to engage the spirit of the soul, you have to sense its raison d’etre, without which you cannot reach them. Not to decry the positive of course, but if it comes without depth of sensitivity and experience, it is rather like going to a session of Adventist happy clappers meeting or an Elders counselling session both of whom are more than happy to tell us that Jesus loves us, but for the life of them, cannot go deeper that that.

I see what you mean. I just try to keep it simple and follow Jesus Christ example. I do like getting into the details of things but I have to stop myself sometimes and think not to overcomplicate things.

Amazing that I came across this post tonight.
As some know, I was one of the ones fired from my hospital job (housekeeping covid rooms) for not taking the jab.
3 weeks after being fired I did manage to get another job.....shocking right !!?? But I did. A warehouse for Toyota. That lasted just about a year. November would have been 1 yr there.
Again, I was fired. Sept 8 this year. Long story, not jab related.
ANYWAYS, I've applied to several jobs since being fired again. It's not been easy. So many places don't want to hire no matter how short staffed they are unless your 'fully vaccinated' 🙄
So a friend of mine (in the same situation) told me to apply to the school board, catholic school board. They don't require or even ask if you are inaculated, jabbed.
After a couple weeks of thinking about it not thinking about it I finally decided I didn't have much choice. I need to work & pay my bills.
I got the job, actually 2 offers to work for the school.
The one job was for an EA (teachers assistant, I'm a PSW), & the other for custodian.
I took the custodian job. This way I am not having to engage in the holiday celebrations the classes do with the kids.

Did I beat myself up over having to make the choice I did?? Absolutely!!!
Now I've made peace with myself. I only have Jehovah to answer to, & that sits ok with me in my heart & mind.

Very true for all of us, but that is what makes us human. I have difficulty with prayer - how can we approach the creator of all things. As the bible says, when we contemplate how we ourselves are made, all we can say is that we are awed in how our body is constructed. It seems that all we can offer in prayer is our sincerity in belief, just as Jesus said “blessed are those that do not see and yet believe.” So one way or another, we all feel as you do in that simplicity in humble belief is key. Generally, outside of those parameters, all is guesswork. 👍

I’m glad that you got work. It is not easy out there. Since I retired I have not had to do battle with the world and though getting old is not as easy as one might think, it’s blessing in solitude (for me at least) and in no longer having to contend with this world has become a sort of spiritual existence by default simply through the fact that I am no longer compelled to deal with this world directly. No need to beat yourself up. Jehovah will provide your means of escape.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us tax collector's, criminals and prostitutes.

(Matthew 7:22, 23) Many will say to me in that day: ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them: ‘I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness!’

Would you tell Jesus not to focus on the negatives, but only on the positives?
You could warn him that it will bring him down to Satan's level of having a terrible mindset.

Isn't your post "The great delusion has come full circle!" 100% focusing on the negative?

:)

All schools base their curriculum on pagan celebrations

I’m really sorry to hear that. Thank you for sharing. I was actually canceled for speaking up against transgenders in my sport back in 2020 during lockdowns I lost my job and I’ve severely struggled since then. I landed a job in Florida this year working in a dormitory at a prestigious boarding school and did that for a few months, but the hours were rough, and the hurricane also motivated me to quit too (along with low pay and high rent). So I’m looking for full time work again. I really enjoyed coaching track and field, which is what I did before the pandemic, but it’s very hard to get those kind of jobs without knowing anyone.

Yeah I’ve seen postings to coach at things like Catholic schools and other denominations but never applied for those ones. But since my options are severely limited at this point, I am considering it. One thing I consider is that I’m really working for the athletic department, which works for the school, which sort of works for the church. So it’s not directly tied to religion. Still pondering over these things. Thank you all for sharing.

My dojo's owners are protestants but some of their work involves the local catholic school.

I'm sorry to hear that :( I do understand what you went through.
I have to say though, Throughout all of what I went through my faith in God has never been stronger. I'm pretty sure that's what kept me going.
You will find something that is more accommodating I'm sure. One day at a time 🙂
