I listened to this song for the first time yesterday and loved it. They mixed the sound of country/ rock and beach from the 60’s/70’s into this song.
I love the cat dancing in the background!
When I say gospel I mean a sound unto God without the accompaniement of synthesizers and backup singers. Just four guys under a streetlamp singing to their God. Sort of like Jersey Boys but without the Mob. In the 70s, there were gospel singers galore and they were on mainstream TV. You turned on the TV and there they were. Maybe not in California but I lived in Arkansas. In Arkansas they were not ashamed of the Lord in the way they are in Californication. The name of Jesus was heard on public television and radio in the South/ Midsouth in the 70s. Even now, people make me know the name of Jesus in general conversation here in Tennessee and I love that. They make me hear his name. There is no misunderstanding about where their beliefs originate. How many will fall though the cracks? I don't know. If I am typing this to you then I am not dead yet and God has granted me time.I think it was Bagdad Bill who asked if anyone had any gospel style music but I don’t recall his exact description. I do love the Kingdom Melodies, especially the new ones, but there is also modern music that has a message of good bible principles without being too much of Christendom and so I thought I would invite all to contribute so that we can all enjoy some clean music. As the bible tells us, we cannot get too much goodness. To start off I want to post a song by John Legend called “Preach” and it really puts to music the principle that we find at James 1:23-25: “For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, this one is like a man looking at his own face in a mirror. For he looks at himself, and he goes away and immediately forgets what sort of person he is. But the one who peers into the perfect law that belongs to freedom and continues in it has become, not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work; and he will be happy in what he does“.
The scripture and the song are a great encouragement to me to keep the focus on how I can better apply christian principles. I hope you enjoy as much as I do.
